Job Summary
A casual Clinician in the START program in Abbotsford, B.C. responsible for comprehensive assessment, treatment, and referral coordination for adolescents and families in acute crisis, education, consultation, and collaboration with community and hospital agencies.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify client and family needs and formulate appropriate treatment recommendations.

Assess needs for psychiatric evaluation and coordinate with community psychiatrists.

Provide therapeutic counseling through short‑term individual and family therapy using models such as Brief Therapy and Crisis Intervention.

Develop treatment plans; act as case manager, liaising with community resources.

Provide consultative and direct services regarding community resources to facilitate continuity of care.

Assist in development and delivery of in‑services, education sessions, presentations, and training for clients, families, staff, and caregivers.

Network with community agencies and Fraser Health hospitals to enhance intra‑agency cooperation.

Participate in ongoing social research.

Complete statistics, case records, assessment reports, and other documentation as per program policies; analyze and assist with interpretation of those statistics.

Participate in program and community resource development to address service gaps and client/family needs.

Attend team meetings and multidisciplinary meetings as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education, Training & Experience

Master’s degree in an applicable social or health sciences program such as Counseling Psychology.

Two (2) years of recent,



related experience in adolescent crisis intervention in a mental health setting or hospital emergency department, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Eligibility for registration with the relevant professional association.

Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle for work‑related purposes.

Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Crisis Intervention Theory and demonstrated skill in crisis intervention with adolescents and families.

Comprehensive knowledge of Systems Theory and ability to incorporate this into assessments and intervention.

Demonstrated skill in group and family therapy.

Knowledge of developmental stages and family life cycle issues.

Comprehensive knowledge of adolescent mental health problems, including substance misuse.

Knowledge of diagnostic criteria for prevalent psychiatric diagnoses in adolescents.

Knowledge of evidence‑based practice related to Developmental Pediatrics, neuropsychiatric conditions (e.g., complex ADHD, FASD, pervasive developmental disorders, Tourette’s disorder, seizure disorders).

Ability to establish rapport with clients and families beyond initial presenting concerns.

Knowledge and ability to conduct social science research.

Ability to organize workload, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively with hospital and community agencies using a multidisciplinary team model.

Solid communication skills, both verbal and written.

Aptitude for planning, organizing, and prioritizing work in continually changing and complex environments.

Problem‑solving, decision‑making skills, and sound judgment.

Effective interpersonal skills.

Physical ability to perform job duties.
