Introduction
Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long Term Care is seeking a Medical Officer of Health (MOH) on a Regular Full-time basis.

Duties
As members of the department’s public health team, the Medical Officers of Health (MOHs) play a key role in leading the promotion, protection, and preservation of health for the Province’s population. MOH’s expertise in population health assessment, health promotion, mitigation/control of environmental and occupational health risks, epidemiology, health planning, and program evaluation allows them to play this key role and ensures equitable public health service delivery to all of the province’s population.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Provincial Public Health Officer (DCPPHO), the incumbent provides expertise, advice and direction to Manitoba Health while ensuring that core public health priorities determined by the Department and the Office of the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer (CPPHO)



are effectively implemented.

The CPPHO provides leadership, priorities, and coordination for the MOHs to ensure an integrated approach to public health programs and services and focuses on the promotion of health, as well as the prevention and control of diseases, for the Province’s population. This work is done in collaboration with the Population and Public Health branch.

Qualifications

Licensed physician with advanced training in public health/preventive medicine or related field with a preference for a Royal College Fellowship.





Significant public health experience with a comprehensive knowledge of the provincial and national public health system (i.e., emergency planning, outbreak management, chronic and communicable disease, surveillance and epidemiology, environmental health, and public health protection and promotion).

Working knowledge of specific and related legislation including The Public Health Act and Regulations, The Drinking Water Safety Act and The Environment Act.

Proven ability to respond quickly and effectively to issues and problems that arise with little or no forewarning; ability to demonstrate confidence and build trust with stakeholders and the public.

Clinical acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex public health topics and sensitive issues.

Demonstrated ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change.

Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills with experience communicating effectively and confidently with the public and key partners and stakeholders.

Experience providing leadership and direction in the design and implementation of policies and programs.

Conditions of Employment

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Physicians licensed to practice medicine in other Canadian jurisdictions must be eligible for licensure in Manitoba.

Must be and remain in good standing with the current licensing body.

Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check.

Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent and the ability to travel throughout the province as required.

Ability to participate in the provincial system for MOH on‑call coverage as required.
