About us
Urban International School (UIS) is a private high school in Toronto inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education in Ontario, Canada. Over the last decade, we have offered specialized academic courses that are designed for students who wish to pursue higher education in Canada and around the world. Based on the program students wish to pursue in post-secondary school, UIS prepares a customized study plan that underlies one of our four streams: Engineering, Science/Math, Business, Arts or College.
Most of our graduates are accepted in prestigious universities such as the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McGill University, among many other Canadian and international universities.
UIS has a friendly and dedicated team of Ontario-certified teachers who teach courses from Grade 7 to Grade 12 to a diverse student body that includes students from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
Position Summary The Student Service & Community Liaison is a full-time,native English-speaking role hired to foster an English-language environment for Grade 7–12 students, supporting their daily school life, English-language confidence, and community integration. This role provides day-to-day conversational support (Canadian life adjustment, general guidance, light academic/university-pathway conversation), leads a small group tutoring program (B2), and supports school events, orientation, club oversight, and guest experience under the direction of the Management Office and Principal's Office.
Key Responsibilities
Student Engagement & English Environment
- Foster an English-speaking setting across daily school life by serving as an approachable native English-speaking point of contact for students.
- Provide general guidance on Canadian daily life, school routines, and light academic/university-pathway conversation.
B2 Program Tutoring
- Lead small-group tutoring sessions for the B2 program, Monday–Friday (approx. 1–2 hours/day).
- Track student participation and progress, reporting concerns to the Principal's Office.
Orientation & School Events
- Co-lead new student orientation (OT),
including leading campus tours for incoming students, alongside the existing orientation team.
- Provide guest hosting and campus tours for visitors attending school events (e.g., open houses, ceremonies, special programs)..
- Co-lead planning and execution of the school's frequent events and activities throughout the year (scheduling, logistics, on-site support) together with the Principal's Office.
Guest & Visitor Support
- Partner with the school's guest relations team to welcome and guide campus tours for prospective families, agency partners, and other individual or ad-hoc school visitors outside of scheduled events.
- Coordinate visitor scheduling and itineraries in collaboration with the guest relations team, ensuring a smooth and professional experience from arrival to handoff.
Student Clubs Oversight
- Support the Principal's Office in overseeing student clubs, coordinating with individual club advisors/teachers to ensure clubs are running smoothly and meeting school expectations.
- Serve as a point of contact between club advisors and the Principal's Office for scheduling, resources, and general coordination needs.
Marketing Material & Communications Support
- Regularly review and proofread English-language school marketing and promotional materials (brochures, flyers, website copy, social media posts, signage, apparel/merchandise text) together with the Principal's Office, ensuring grammatical accuracy, natural phrasing, and tone appropriate for an international audience.
- Provide ongoing input on English wording for materials directed at prospective families, agency partners, and vendors, ensuring clarity and professionalism.
- Collaborate with the Principal's Office and marketing/admissions team to refine messaging before external release.
Substitute Coverage (Backup)
- Provide classroom coverage only when a supply teacher cannot be secured, delivering prepared lesson plans and maintaining a safe, productive classroom environment, under the direction of the Principal's Office.
- (OCT certification not required; preferred but not mandatory.)
General
- Other duties as assigned by the management team.
- Provide regular progress reports to the management team on a daily basis.
Qualifications & Skills
- Native or native-level fluency in English (required).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a professional, approachable manner suited to building rapport with international students.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, comfortable managing multiple responsibilities at once.
- Comfortable proofreading and editing English-language written materials with attention to grammar, tone, and clarity.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling student information, in accordance with privacy legislation and school policies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Comfortable working occasional evenings (typically 1–2 times per year) for school events.
- Strong team player, able to work collaboratively with the Management Office, Principal's Office, and marketing/admissions team.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum, OUAC, and OCAS is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Canadian student visa process is an asset.
Education
- College diploma or Bachelor's degree in any field.
Experience
- Previous experience in an educational setting (high school, post-secondary, or ESL) is an asset.
- Experience providing tutoring, mentorship, or student support to adolescents is an asset.
- Experience supporting school events, orientation programs, or guest/visitor coordination is an asset.
Pay: $40,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
