The Building Inspector (Insurance Loss Prevention Associate, LPA) reports to the Loss Prevention Manager and is responsible for undertaking complex risk assessments of farm, residential and commercial properties to provide technical advice on risk management and claims prevention to reduce loss rates. The LPA conducts thorough inspections and implements effective loss prevention approaches. The incumbent provides recommendations for specific, corrective actions as necessary to prevent losses before they occur. Collaborates with Agents/Brokers, Member Service Representatives, Underwriters, Claims Adjusters, and community partners to reduce risk exposures.

QUALIFICATIONS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Certified electricians will be given preference

University / college degree or diploma - with a focus on technical and/or engineering fields, or similar combination of education and experience

Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) (preferred)

WETT Certification

5+ years experience in loss prevention investigation

Claims background is an asset

Construction experience is an asset

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office; Excel, Work, PowerPoint, Outlook

Working knowledge of local building codes, fire codes and other applicable standards

Knowledge of building construction, electrical, and/or plumbing





Understanding and experience with Thermal Imaging

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)

Detail oriented with robust attention to accuracy

Problem solving and solution focused

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:

Analyze thermal images for additional anomalies identified during the field inspection and include those items in the report. Completes the risk assessment report based on thermal images, digital photographs, and other information.

Compose and prepare letters, memos, and reports, as well as risk management and loss control documentation and procedures according to BCM standard operation procedures

Adhere to all health and safety protocols including pre-inspecting all appropriate protective equipment as well as maintaining safe distances to potential hazards.

Perform on-site risk assessments of policy holder properties using thermal imaging equipment, laser measuring devices, and tablet computers.

Responsible for maintaining and safely using all equipment and tools necessary to complete risk assessments.

Act in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Pre-Job Checklists, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency in all assessments.

Prepare detailed risk assessment reports and recommendation reports

Communicate, consult and/or advise underwriters, agents, and policy holders

Support the implementation of loss prevention strategies, initiatives, and best practices

Compile and prepare reports and summaries for timely reporting of findings.

Job Type: Permanent Full time

Schedule: Monday to Friday (some weekends required)
