Foreperson (Construction – Grading)

Overview
This individual is responsible for carrying out assigned tasks/responsibilities efficiently and effectively. They will meet quality standards and production targets set by the organization. They will follow established procedures, guidelines, and best practices. It is important that they maintain open and constructive communication with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Finally, they will show punctuality and reliability in fulfilling work obligations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret construction drawings
- Use GPS and other survey instruments to establish correct line and grade
- Identify any conflicts and report to site supervisor
- Work with engineers and surveyors to solve problems
- Achieve correct grade by directing operators of equipment to adjust grade by moving earth, gravel, and other materials
- Measure distances from reference points or offsets to accurately install utilities
- Lead and supervise the grading crew, including equipment operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to crew members based on project needs and individual skills.
- Enforce strict safety protocols and ensure that all crew members follow safety regulations and guidelines.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks to discuss potential hazards and preventive measures.
- Manage and optimize crew productivity to meet project deadlines and maintain efficient grading operations.
- Coordinate equipment and material resources to maximize efficiency.
- Maintain clear and open communication with the project manager, superintendent, and other stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, challenges, and potential delays.
- Maintain accurate records, including daily logs, equipment maintenance records, and crew attendance records.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, if applicable, to ensure their work aligns with project requirements and timelines.
- Maintain clear and open communication with other crew members, project managers, inspectors, and clients to coordinate construction activities and address concerns.
Requirements
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License
- Access to a reliable vehicle
- 3-5 years of experience

Wage Range
The hourly range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $36.00 and $43.00 per hour. However, the range offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
