This combines the high-precision skills of a Tool and Die Maker with the versatility of a General Machinist, covering both manual and CNC operations, along with maintenance responsibilities. This role focuses on designing, building, repairing, and maintaining custom tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to support production.

Position Summary The Tool and Die Maker / General Machinist (Manual & CNC) is responsible for fabricating and repairing precision tools, molds, and machine components. This role requires setting up and operating a wide range of manual (lathes, mills, grinders) and CNC machinery, programming CNC equipment, and performing preventative maintenance to ensure machinery remains in peak condition.

Key Responsibilities

1. Tool & Die Making and Repair

Design & Build: Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD data to build new custom tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges. Repair & Modify: Repair, modify, and troubleshoot broken or worn-out dies and tools, ensuring they are restored to high-precision specifications.

Fitting: Assemble, disassemble, file, grind, and shim components to ensure proper function.

Test: Test completed tools and dies to verify they operate correctly and produce parts within tolerance.

1. CNC and Manual Machining

CNC Operation/Programming: Set up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, grinders) and create/edit CNC code (G-code/M-code) using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam). Manual Machining: Set up and operate conventional machines (lathes, mills, surface grinders) to shape, turn, and drill precision parts.





Precision Work: Achieve Required tolerances

Material Prep: Cut raw materials (metals, alloys, plastics) to size and lay out workpieces for machining.

1. Machine Maintenance & Shop Support

Preventative Maintenance (PM): Perform routine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, and repairing machine tools. Troubleshooting: Analyze and solve mechanical issues on equipment.

Tool Calibration: Maintain and calibrate precision measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, CMMs).

Safety & Housekeeping: Adhere to all safety protocols (PPE, machine guarding) and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in a tool room or custom machine shop environment.

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of metallurgy, cutting tool geometry, speeds, feeds, and heat treatment. And/Or Tool and Die maintenance and design.

Software Proficiency: Preferred but not required Experience with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and CNC controls (Fanuc, Okuma, Heidenhain).

Physical Strength: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands

Standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.

Lifting heavy tools and metal stock (often 50+ lbs).

Working in a shop setting that may be noisy or dirty.

Compensation

Based on Experience

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $20.00-$35.00 per hour
