HR Project Partners is currently accepting résumés for a Transmission Engineer on behalf of one of our clients. Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (NL Hydro) and its subsidiaries require the services of a Transmission Engineer to join its team to help support the Regulated Engineering Services team at NL Hydro. The individual would support the execution of Capital and Operating projects for NL Hydro assets throughout Newfoundland.
Hours: Normal hours for this work scope are 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Location: The work will be performed from NL Hydro’s head office at Hydro Place in St. John’s, NL. Remote working arrangements may be considered or required by Company, with such arrangements dependent on the work requirements and in all cases subject to approval.

Anticipated End Date: Oct 1, 2027
Essential Job Functions:
The position will work within the Transmission & Distribution Engineering group to help execute projects within NL Hydro’s Regulated portfolio. The individual will be required to complete various technical engineering analysis of new or existing Transmission Line Infrastructure using
PLS Cadd as required. Individuals demonstrating strong experience and a sound understanding of this software and its utilization for Transmission Line Design are preferred for this position and would be considered an asset to the organization. The work for this position will also include performing all aspects of project execution from the conceptual stage, prefeasibility studies through to final design and project development.
The successful candidate will be required to prepare budget estimates, work orders, material and equipment orders and contract documents. Work will also include evaluation and recommendation for contract awards and performance of construction management duties for assigned projects including safety and environmental coordination.
In addition to ongoing capital projects, the successful candidate will review and support the development of capital budget applications, while coordinating with a multi-discipline team to perform estimates and develop the technical justification for proposed work for NL Hydro’s regulated infrastructure.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Civil or Electrical) with a minimum of 5 years experience since graduation;
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the utility industry;
- Membership in the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) as a qualified engineer;
- Experience in the use of PLS Cadd Software Suite including PLS Cadd, PLS Pole and PLS Tower;
- Proven and demonstrated communication skills;
- Ability to thrive as a participant within a multi-discipline team of both internal and external resources;
- Relevant experience in design, implementation and troubleshooting;
- Experience in developing and managing engineering consultant contracts;
- Experience in developing and managing construction contracts; and
- Experience in engineering project estimates.
