About the job
In this challenging position, you will:

prepare recommendations regarding the planning, design, construction and maintenance of highway facilities

supervise engineering service provider assignments

carry out on-site investigations and prepare reports

analyse and evaluate field and laboratory test data

provide technical information and advice to staff, service providers, stakeholders and special interest groups

evaluate pavement conditions and develop maintenance/rehabilitation strategies

Please note: fieldwork and occasional overnight travel is a requirement of this position.

What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements

The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license upon being hired.

Technical knowledge:

Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of pavement investigation, testing and design,



to analyze problems and identify solutions

Knowledge of highway construction and maintenance to provide cost effective solutions related to construction issues

Knowledge of geotechnical engineering materials (soils, asphalt) to identify pavement and material problems and provide recommendations to ministry staff and consultants

Working knowledge of computers and relevant software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access), to facilitate communication, problem analysis, and data inventory

Essential skills:

Ability to analyze a problem by identifying critical factors, research, define causes, define possible solutions, and select best solution

Listening, speaking, writing, working cooperatively in a team environment, to promote the effective delivery of multi-disciplinary projects

Ability to work effectively both individually and in teams to negotiate resolve, advise, report and present technical and administrative information

Ability to assist in the administration and supervision of consultants by preparing and administering contracts, assessing deliverables and rating performance, to effectively deliver projects without delay
