Box Consulting Group is seeking a C-SOX Auditor on behalf of our client for a 5-month contract .
This role will provide independent, risk-based assurance over Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICFR) as part of the organization''s annual C-SOX audit, with a primary focus on business and non-IT controls .
The successful candidate will assess control design, implementation, and operating effectiveness across key financial processes, complete detailed audit testing and workpapers, identify control deficiencies, and work closely with Internal Audit, control owners, management, and the IT Auditor.
This role requires a seasoned audit professional who can work independently, move quickly through a defined testing scope, and maintain a high standard of audit documentation.
Responsibilities Assess the design, implementation, and operating effectiveness of C-SOX business controls for the 2026 audit period.
Test controls across expenditures, capital, payroll, operating reserves, revenue and settlements, credit, treasury, financial close, reporting, and entity-level controls.
Document financial reporting risks, control objectives, assertions, ownership, frequency, thresholds, evidence, and control design conclusions.
Perform control walkthroughs from transaction initiation through processing, recording, and financial reporting.
Develop operating-effectiveness testing plans, including populations, sampling methodologies, testing criteria, evidence, exceptions, and conclusions.
Validate population completeness and accuracy and maintain clear supporting documentation.
Coordinate with the IT Auditor regarding automated controls, system changes, and IT dependencies affecting business controls.
Prepare detailed audit workpapers in accordance with internal methodology and applicable IIA Standards .
Identify, assess, document, and communicate control exceptions and deficiencies.
Work with control owners and the Lead Auditor to document management responses, remediation actions, ownership,
and target dates.
Maintain the C-SOX audit status dashboard, including testing progress, outstanding requests, exceptions, remediation, and controls at risk.
Identify recurring issues, process improvements, control enhancements, and potential automation opportunities.
Escalate significant issues including missing evidence, repeated exceptions, scope limitations, potential management override, or fraud indicators.
Support audit quality reviews, workpaper sign-offs, review-note clearance, and timely completion of the C-SOX audit.
Qualifications - Must-Haves CPA or CIA professional designation required.
Post-secondary education in Business, IT, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. 8+ years of internal audit, governance, risk, controls, or related experience , with a solid focus on non-IT/business controls.
Direct experience with SOX, C-SOX, SOC, ICFR, or similar control frameworks .
Strong knowledge and practical application of IIA Standards .
Experience assessing control design and testing operating effectiveness.
Strong audit documentation and workpaper preparation skills.
Experience identifying, documenting, and assessing control deficiencies and exceptions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while building effective relationships with auditors, control owners, and management.
Strong analytical skills and ability to use technology and data analysis to improve audit efficiency.
Nice-to-Haves CISA designation.
Electricity, utilities, or energy industry experience.
Experience with Workday .
