RAHCAR Power Corp. is a growing utility construction and maintenance contractor delivering critical infrastructure projects throughout Alberta, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.

We construct and maintain overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, transmission infrastructure, natural gas systems, communications infrastructure, street lighting, and complete shallow-utility installations for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.

We are currently seeking motivated Utility Construction Labourers to join our Calgary team, primarily supporting shallow-utility construction in new residential and commercial developments throughout Calgary and surrounding communities.

Previous utility experience is an asset, but it is not required. We are looking for dependable, safety-minded individuals who want to work hard, learn the industry, and build a long-term career in construction.

Position Summary Utility Construction Labourers are an important part of RAHCAR’s field crews and assist with the construction and installation of underground electrical, natural gas, communications, street-lighting, and related shallow-utility infrastructure.

This is a hands-on position involving physical work, construction tools, materials, equipment, and active jobsites.

You will work alongside experienced tradespeople and equipment operators while developing practical construction skills and an understanding of how complete underground utility systems are built.

For the right individual, this role can provide an excellent entry point into a long-term career in utility construction.

What You’ll Do

Underground Utility Construction

- Assist with the installation of electrical, natural gas, communications, street-lighting, and associated underground utility infrastructure.




- Assist crews with conduit installation, cable pulling, gas pipe installation, utility services, vaults, pedestals, transformers, and related construction activities.
- Support trenching, excavation, bedding, backfilling, compaction, grading, and site restoration.
- Handle and organize construction materials, tools, conduits, cable, pipe, and equipment.
- Assist tradespeople and equipment operators with daily construction activities.
- Work around excavations and existing underground infrastructure while following established safe-work practices.
- Assist with measuring, layout, site preparation, and general project execution.
- Perform other construction-related duties required to safely and efficiently complete projects.

Tools & Equipment
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, compaction equipment, and other construction tools as trained and authorized.
- Assist with the setup, movement, and maintenance of construction equipment.
- Perform basic inspections, cleaning, fueling, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles as required.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Opportunities may be available to develop skills operating skid steers, mini excavators, backhoes, and other construction equipment based on experience, aptitude, and training.

Safety
- Participate in daily tailboard meetings, field-level hazard assessments, and job planning.
- Follow RAHCAR, client, and regulatory safety requirements at all times.
- Recognize hazards and communicate concerns to supervisors and crew members.
- Follow utility locate and safe-excavation requirements.
- Use required personal protective equipment and maintain safe work practices.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and professional worksites.
- Look out for your crew and contribute to a culture where everyone goes home safely.

Teamwork & Professionalism
- Take direction from Foremen, Journeymen, and other experienced crew members.
- Communicate effectively and work cooperatively as part of a construction crew.
- Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to contribute.
- Take pride in the quality and productivity of your work.
- Ask questions, learn new skills, and take initiative when appropriate.
- Treat coworkers, clients, the public, and project stakeholders professionally and respectfully.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Reliable transportation and ability to report to work as scheduled.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.




- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Dependable, hardworking, and willing to learn.
- Comfortable performing physically demanding construction work.
- Ability to repeatedly lift and carry approximately 50 lbs.
- Ability to work around excavations, construction equipment, and active jobsites.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Local to the Calgary area or willing to relocate before beginning employment.
- Willingness to work overtime when project requirements dictate.

What Will Help You Succeed Previous construction experience is an asset but is not required.

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring any of the following:

- Civil construction or earthworks experience
- Underground utility or shallow-utility experience
- Pipeline, oilfield, landscaping, roadbuilding, concrete, or general construction experience
- Experience operating skid steers, mini excavators, excavators, or backhoes
- Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement
- Ground Disturbance Level II
- Standard First Aid/CPR
- CSTS 2020
- Experience working from utility locates or construction drawings
- Mechanical aptitude and experience maintaining equipment or tools
