As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.Job Description:Position Purpose summary: Under the direction of the Bailey House Supervisor, the employee provides resident support services, on-site supervision, and security for The Salvation Army Bailey HouseAccountabilities:Provides resident support services while on shift by:Assisting residents with personal care concernsProviding residents with supplies as requiredAssisting residents with forms and requests as requiredInteracting and communicating positively with residents throughout the shiftAssisting Caseworkers as requiredCheck on clients to ensure personal safetyExplaining/reinforcing information provided to clients in a consistent and professional mannerCarefully assisting residents with their medication and documenting sameResponding to medical emergencies within the facilityRegularly reporting to case workers concerning resident behavioursImmediately reporting critical incidents to the on-call supervisor or the Bailey House CoordinatorDaily follow up of resident chores to ensure completionAdmitting and discharging residents according to the Policies and Procedures ManualReporting AWOL or late residents as required according to Policies and Procedures manualAdministers breathalyser and urinalysis tests as per the Drug Testing Policy and appropriately records resultsProvides site management and security throughout the Shift by:Works wake shift during the nightAssuring security of facility through monitoring cameras, locking appropriate doors,
and using and monitoring the alarm systemEnsuring resident’s guests are signed in and out within curfew hoursMonitoring resident’s day plansCompleting regular rounds and head counts to ensure that all residents are accounted for according to policy and procedureCompleting room checks as per policy and procedureComplete building checks as per policy and procedureMonitoring security screens and responding as appropriateCompleting room searches as directed by the Caseworkers or Bailey House CoordinatorEnsuring that residents do not exceed their allowable limit of personal effectsItemizing and packing up clients’ personal effects when they are removed from the facilityAssisting with the general upkeep and maintenance of the Bailey HouseOvernight staff need to respond to hourly radio checksRespond to radio requests for assistance in other departments as appropriateProvides administrative support while on shift by:Documentation and report writingGeneral Reception duties including answering the telephone and relaying messages to clients and other departments as requiredSending e-mail messages as requiredCompletes records/forms such as: Client Medication; Incident reports; Occurrence ReportsCompleting filing duties, which includes preparing new files, archiving old files, retrieving archived files when there are returning clientsMaintaining accurate client recordsDatabase entries – case notes, behaviour, medications, intakes, discharges, etc.Responding to requests from other departments within the NWT Resource Centre where feasibleAttending all scheduled staff meetingsMaintaining current understanding of policies and proceduresMaintaining healthy working relationships with NWT Resource Centre staff, Bailey House staff, allied professionals, and other referral partiesRelaying pertinent information related to client concerns, operational issues, community issues, etc. promptly to appropriate personnelFollowing formal lines of communication as identified by The Salvation Army organizational structureOther duties as assigned by Bailey House Coordinator or his designateResponsible for utilizing the facility and its equipment in a safe and efficient manner by:Maintaining current understanding of policies and proceduresMaintaining and using supplies prudentlyReport any facility or equipment concerns immediately to Bailey House CoordinatorImplementing appropriate emergency procedures related to the facility and/or the clients i.e. CPR, fire evacuations,
etc.Completing unusual occurrence documentation as requiredIdentifying and reporting any unsafe conditions promptly to the Bailey House Coordinator and the Operations ManagerFamiliar with the Centre’s physical layout, including location of fire pull boxes, extinguishers, emergency phones, maintenance rooms, boiler room, etc.Maintain a clean and professional looking office spaceWorking Conditions:The work setting can be fast-paced and demanding. The need to be constantly aware of the environment and the movements and attitudes of the individual clients can be stressful. There is a potential to work with aggressive, high-risk clients in this position.Education and Experience Qualifications:Generally, these skills are found in individuals who have previous experience or training in security settings.
