Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable, energetic, and experienced Veterinary Receptionist to join our busy veterinary team.
This is primarily a reception position, so strong customer service, communication, organization, and multitasking skills are essential. We are looking for someone with previous experience in a veterinary hospital, veterinary clinic, animal care facility, kennel, grooming workplace, or another related animal-care setting. This is not an entry-level position for someone with no related experience.
For the right candidate, there is also an opportunity to learn and grow into veterinary assistant duties. Once you are confident and comfortable with the reception responsibilities, we would love to train you in additional hands-on skills and have you help the veterinary team when needed.
Because this is a busy veterinary hospital, you must be comfortable working around and handling both cats and dogs and be willing to help with general hospital duties such as cleaning kennels and exam rooms, laundry, dishes, restocking, and keeping the hospital clean and organized.
Responsibilities
- Greet clients warmly and professionally, creating a welcoming first impression.
- Answer phones, emails, and client inquiries in a friendly and professional manner.
- Schedule appointments and help manage the daily appointment flow.
- Communicate effectively with clients, veterinarians, and the veterinary team.
- Process payments, invoices, and other front-desk transactions.
- Maintain accurate client and patient records.
- Provide excellent customer service while handling busy and sometimes stressful situations.
- Assist the veterinary team when needed with basic veterinary assistant duties.
- Safely handle and work around both cats and dogs.
- Assist with patient restraint and other hands-on duties as training progresses.
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and other hospital spaces.
- Help with laundry, dishes, restocking, and general hospital cleaning.
- Assist with veterinary procedures as trained and directed.
- Jump in wherever needed to help keep the hospital running smoothly.
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous experience in a veterinary hospital, veterinary clinic, animal care facility, kennel, grooming salon, pet care, or another related animal-care environment.
- Veterinary reception experience is a strong asset.
- Comfortable handling and working around both cats and dogs.
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology and basic veterinary procedures is an asset.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team.
- Comfortable with cleaning, laundry, kennel care,
and other general hospital duties.
- Willing and eager to learn additional veterinary assistant responsibilities.
- Comfortable occasionally stepping away from the reception desk to help the veterinary team when needed.
- A positive attitude and willingness to pitch in wherever needed.
Who We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is friendly, confident, dependable, hardworking, and comfortable in a busy veterinary environment.
You do not need to already be a fully trained veterinary assistant. We are happy to train the right person in additional hands-on skills once they demonstrate that they can confidently handle the reception responsibilities. However, you should already have some relevant experience and a genuine comfort level around animals.
This is a hands-on veterinary hospital environment, and everyone on our team pitches in when needed. If you're someone who enjoys working with people and animals, doesn't mind getting your hands dirty, and is interested in growing your veterinary skills, we'd love to hear from you!
Please apply with your resume and a brief description of your previous animal or veterinary experience.
