**Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator**
**Job Description**
This role involves operating heavy equipment on civil construction and stormwater projects across multiple sites from Vancouver to Maple Ridge.
You will work with excavators, skid steers, and rollers to support underground and above-ground utility work, including digging, loading trucks, sorting materials, and performing general labor tasks as needed.
**Responsibilities**
Operate excavators, skid steers, and rollers safely and efficiently on civil construction and stormwater projects.
Work around underground and above-ground utilities, ensuring safe digging and excavation practices.
Load trucks with materials, sort and move materials on site, and support general labor tasks as required.
Perform mainline and underground work, including trenching and backfilling in civil construction environments.
Carry out pre-trip inspections and routine checks on equipment, including cleaning tracks and ensuring equipment is in good working order.
Lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs as part of daily tasks.
Communicate clearly with site supervisors and team members to coordinate work and maintain safe operations.
Work in varying site conditions, including mud and all weather elements, both indoors and outdoors.
Travel between different job sites, including locations such as UBC and East Maple Ridge, as projects and site needs change.
Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
**Essential Skills**
Minimum of 5+ years of experience operating an excavator in civil construction or related environments.
Proficiency operating heavy equipment such as excavators and skid steers.
Experience working on mainline and underground utility projects.
Ability to perform general labor work in addition to equipment operation.
Experience cleaning equipment tracks and conducting pre-trip inspections.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties.
Ownership and use of required PPE, including 6" steel-toed boots, safety glasses, protective gloves, hard hat, and high visibility vest.
Access to a car for travel to various job sites.
Good communication skills for coordinating work and maintaining safety on site.
Comfort working in all types of weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Experience with pipelaying and civil construction work.
Experience in stormwater and underground utilities projects.
Forklift operating experience.
Roller operating experience.
Experience tying in utilities and related civil work.
Willingness to receive mentorship and further develop skills in heavy equipment operation and civil construction.

**Work Environment**
This position is based on active construction sites that move frequently across the region, including locations such as UBC and Maple Ridge.
You will work primarily outdoors in parking lots, school areas, and civil construction sites, often in mud and exposed to all weather elements.
The role involves working in both indoor and outdoor settings as required by the project.
Personal protective equipment is mandatory, including 6" steel-toed boots, safety glasses, protective gloves, a hard hat, and a high visibility vest.
Travel between sites is common, and you should be comfortable working in agile environments where conditions and locations change regularly.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burnaby, BC.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $44.00/hr.
