About the Opportunity Our client is seeking a Hydrogeologist / Groundwater Specialist to join its Site Characterization team in Ignace, Ontario.The successful candidate will support a major environmental and site characterization program focused on shallow groundwater monitoring. The role will oversee the installation and monitoring of approximately 80 new monitoring wells, coordinate field activities, review and process groundwater data, and support the preparation of technical deliverables and quarterly reports.This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental or geotechnical professional with strong groundwater knowledge who understands monitoring well installation, groundwater flow, hydraulic gradients and subsurface conditions, and is comfortable working with both field teams and technical data.
Key Responsibilities Provide technical oversight for a shallow groundwater monitoring program involving the installation and monitoring of approximately 80 new wells.
Oversee and coordinate field teams carrying out groundwater monitoring and sampling activities.
Attend field sites approximately twice per week to support and oversee field activities.
Review daily field reports and ensure field data is accurately captured and documented.
Receive, review, process and validate groundwater field data.
Review groundwater pressure data and convert measurements into data points for technical data deliverables.
Develop and review hydrographs and other groundwater data visualizations.
Analyze groundwater data to support understanding of groundwater conditions, flow patterns and hydraulic gradients.
Support the preparation of quarterly groundwater monitoring reports and other technical documentation.




Review monitoring well installation and sampling activities to ensure they are completed in accordance with applicable procedures and requirements.
Coordinate with field teams, consultants, contractors, laboratories and internal technical specialists.
Support fieldwork planning, logistics, equipment preparation and data collection activities.
Identify data quality issues, field challenges and potential risks and communicate them to the project team.
Contribute to broader site characterization and environmental baseline monitoring activities as required.
Assist with contractor coordination, invoice review, project tracking and other project administration activities.
Prepare technical presentations, reports and other project documentation.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable regulatory, environmental, safety and organizational requirements.
Qualifications & Experience Four-year university degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
4–6+ years of relevant professional experience in groundwater, environmental or geotechnical work.
Demonstrated experience with shallow groundwater monitoring and sampling.
Robust understanding of monitoring well installation and construction.
Understanding of groundwater flow, hydraulic gradients and groundwater behaviour.
Experience working with groundwater pressure/water-level data and converting field measurements into usable technical datasets.




Experience preparing or interpreting hydrographs and groundwater data deliverables.
Strong technical reporting and documentation skills.
Experience reviewing field data and daily field reports.
Experience coordinating or overseeing field teams, consultants or contractors.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple field and technical activities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary technical team.
Preferred Qualifications P.Eng. or P.Geo. designation, or eligibility to obtain one.
Experience with environmental baseline monitoring programs.
Experience with geotechnical or geological site characterization.
Experience with hydraulic testing or groundwater characterization.
Experience working with deep bedrock environments.
Experience in regulated industries, mining, environmental consulting, nuclear or major infrastructure projects.
Project coordination or project management experience.
Work Environment Based in Ignace, Ontario.
Primarily an office-based position with approximately two field visits per week.
Field site is approximately 30 minutes from Ignace.
A company work truck is provided for travel to the field site.
Fieldwork may involve outdoor conditions and variable weather.
Standard schedule is 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Quarterly environmental monitoring activities may require an extended work period, followed by 14 consecutive days off.
Hybrid work arrangements may be available in accordance with organizational requirements.
Compensation & Benefits $110,000–$122,000 salary, based on experience and qualifications.
Two-year contract.
Unionized position.
6% vacation pay.
Five floating days after three months of employment.
