This posting will be used to fill 1 term part time position working 45 hours bi-weekly ending December 31, 2027. It will establish a 6-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon .

Our team
The Yukon Healthy Living Program (YHLP), is a collaborative care team that supports Yukoners living with chronic health conditions. Support is provided in the form of one-on-one and group programs and services that are accessible throughout the territory, including the use of virtual care platforms to support rural communities. Members of our team collaborate in a clinical setting to empower clients and families to self-manage chronic conditions while also supporting our program goals through the provision of high quality, collaborative chronic care, and effective and accessible self-management support.

Your role
Reporting to the Supervisor, Yukon Healthy Living Program (YHLP) this position provides expertise in exercise programming for people with chronic diseases/conditions within the YHLP.



The position provides a range of services including pre-exercise assessment, exercise prescription and supervision. The incumbent works as part of a team and liaises with physicians and other health care professionals to achieve optimal health for Yukoners with chronic conditions.

Important application and job requirements

Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or other related allied health profession

Eligibility for CSEP Exercise Physiologist Certification and/or ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist Certification

Considerable experience in chronic disease patient education including supporting patient self-management

Experience in developing and implementing clinical exercise programs for individuals and groups





Experience working in cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation would be considered an asset

Strong knowledge in exercise physiology in clinical populations

Knowledge of chronic diseases and implications for physical activity

Knowledge and skills in client centered self-management support

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Collaborative team approach to care

Facilitation and presentation skills

Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, decision making and quality improvement

Highly organized and flexible

Ability to work independently and be self directed

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

TB Screening

Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent

BLS certification or equivalent issued within the last year

CSEP-CEP Certification

Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and ability to stand for significant portion of the working day;

Position works mainly in an exercise facility environment but may include other settings including hospital, client homes, and care facilities;

Willingness to travel by road and air. The position may be required form time to time to travel to locations inside or outside the Yukon for meetings (2 trips lasting 3 days per trip);

Position involves sitting, standing, reaching, stooping and bending. Exercise environments involve lifting weights/equipment and may involve supporting the weight of patients;

Patient-related activities may occasionally involve exposure to infectious individuals, exposure to bodily substances (e.g. blood, saliva) which may carry pathogens.
