Location Address: Hybrid - Toronto – 3 days/week (Tuesday, Thursday – other is adaptable)
Contract Duration: 2 months as this phase of the project finishes then but will likely extend into the next phase for a total of 1 year, and potentially further
Schedule Hours: 9am-5pm Monday-Friday; standard 37.5 hrs/week
Story Behind the Need
Business group:
The roles sit within the Global Risk Management (GRM) Transformation Office – Project Management Office (PMO). This team is responsible for delivering a portfolio of strategic initiatives that support enterprise-wide risk transformation objectives.
The PMO includes approximately 5–8 Project Managers, along with Business Analysts (BAs) and Project Control Officers (PCOs), working collaboratively to deliver GRM programs. Initiatives are funded either through the Strategic Investment Portfolio (SIP) or the Transformation Program Office and are executed in alignment with Scotiabank’s Enterprise Delivery Framework (EDF) standards.
The team focuses primarily on business-led transformation initiatives (as opposed to technology-heavy programs), ensuring consistent, disciplined project delivery across multiple risk domains.
Projects:
In-flight project requires BA support.
The BA is primarily responsible for supporting the delivery of medium to complex regulatory and compliance initiatives for the Transformation Office (TMO) for Global Risk Management (GRM).The contractor is accountable for defining business requirements and process changes to meet the business and operational needs while reducing the Bank's risk.
Project assignments are dynamic and based on evolving business priorities within GRM. Current key initiatives include:
Third-Party Risk Modernization (TPRM)
A high-priority transformation program focused on modernizing third-party onboarding processes, enhancing risk controls, and implementing updated systems. This initiative is currently in the execution phase and involves cross-functional coordination across risk, operations, and technology teams.
Typical Day in Role:
Independently resolve complex problems using industry best practices, technology, and regulatory knowledge.
Conduct research and accurately and clearly define requirements/stories, and business processes.
Contribute, from a Business Analysis perspective to multiple small projects and/or large projects to implement business solutions.
Develop requirement plans, monitoring progress against planned objectives, and securing consensus and co-operation from stakeholders and senior management.
Ensure all requirements are considered (e.g. Functional, Non-Functional) and clear to all stakeholders (Business / Technology / QA).
Use business analysis tools (e.g. business process maps, context diagram, use case, matrix) to convey complex information in complement to textual requirements.
Perform Traceability between business and technical requirements.
Confirm requirements, keep the project portal up to date, generate/maintain the action items log and follow up with the stakeholders,
as required.
Provide input and review test strategies and test cases, support testing as required, documenting user procedures and workflows, support user training, transitioning to steady state and provide post-implementation support.
Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:
1) 10+ years of Business Analysis experience working on complex projects, preferably in financial services, risk management, or regulatory.
2) Experience operating under multiple project delivery frameworks (Waterfall, Agile)
3) Proficiency in MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Visio and experience with JIRA/Confluence.
4) Process improvement experience with an understanding of workflow analysis and design.
Nice-To-Have Skills:
1) Experience with Third Party Risk Management (TPRM)
2) Experience as a Lead BA to help mentor/support other BAs on team (FYI they will not be managing them in this role)
Education:
Post-Secondary preferred – or equivalent working experience
Business Analysis Certifications are an asset
