United Gear & Machine Works Ltd., a division of Boundary Mining Group is a company that has specialized in gearbox refurbishment and enhancement for over 60 years. We manufacture internal and external gears, including spur, helical, bevel and worm, and provide the highest quality gearbox refurbishment services to Western Canada’s mining, pulp and paper, port services, and wind power industries.

About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Millwright is responsible for installing, repairing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and testing of gearboxes.

Key Responsibilities

- Refurbishment and installation of gearboxes and equipment.
- Teardown, inspection, troubleshooting, and testing of gearboxes.
- Key site contact between client and office.
- Mentoring of junior technician staff.

Qualifications & Experience

- A certificate of qualification (red seal) as a Millwright, Machinist, or Heavy Duty Mechanic, or an indentured 2nd year apprentice in these same trades.
- 3+ years of technician experience working in a machine shop.
- Fundamental understanding of the repair and testing of gearboxes.




- Experience in system troubleshooting, system fabrication.
- Understanding of industrial controls, sensors, switches, relays, etc.
- Able to read and understand engineering drawings and schematics.
- Understanding of power unit fabrication, tube/piping installation, welding and machining.

- Ability to represent company on the frontlines when dealing with customers.
- Organized, self-motivated, and hardworking.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and able to work in a team environment.
- Dependable and consistent in attendance, quality, and productivity.

Working Conditions

- General manufacturing shop specializing in gearboxes.
- Overtime as required.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Quick-paced environment requiring high attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Flexible for shift work.
