The Community Legal Clinic Operating Society of BC Operations Director Location: British Columbia (Hybrid; travel between clinic locations may be required)Position Summary The Operations Director assists the Executive Director in supporting the strategic and day-to‑day operational management of the Community Legal Clinic Operating Society of BC (CLCOSBC). Reporting to the Executive Director, the Operations Director supports the effective functioning of clinic operations across all programs and locations, helping to ensure the delivery of high‑quality legal services to low‑income and marginalized communities.The Operations Director assists the Executive Director with administrative systems, financial management processes, human resources coordination, facilities management, and operational policies. This role works closely with clinic leadership to support the implementation of strategic priorities, assist with compliance with funder requirements, and help maintain effective organizational infrastructure under the direction of the Executive Director.Key Responsibilities Operational SupportAssist the Executive Director in supporting day‑to‑day operational functions across all CLCOSBC programs and clinic locations.Assist the Executive Director in the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and systems to support effective service delivery working in tandem with the Clinic Development Director.Monitor organizational workflows and provide information and recommendations to the Executive Director to support operational efficiency and effectiveness.Assist the Executive Director in implementing strategic initiatives and organizational priorities working in tandem with the Clinic Development Director.Support operational coordination across multiple clinics and programs under the direction of the Executive Director.When designated by the Executive Director or the Board of Directors, provide operational continuity during periods of Executive Director absence by assuming delegated responsibilities or supporting the individual appointed as Acting Executive Director, in accordance with organizational policies and established authority limits.Assist the Executive Director in the development, coordination,
and implementation of operational budgets.Monitor operational expenditures and provide updates and information to the Executive Director to support financial oversight and ensure alignment with approved budgets if required by the Executive Director.Assist the Executive Director in preparing financial reports and documentation required by funders and the Board of Directors if needed.Support the Executive Director in maintaining appropriate financial controls, administrative procedures, and internal financial processes.Human Resources and Staff SupportAssist the Executive Director with recruitment, onboarding, and human resources administration for society staff.Support the Executive Director in maintaining HR systems, staff policies, and employment procedures.Assist the Executive Director in supporting compliance with employment legislation, organizational policies, and workplace standards working in tandem with the Clinic Development Director.Provide operational and administrative support to clinic managers and supervisors as directed by the Executive Director.Facilities and InfrastructureAssist the Executive Director with facilities coordination, including leases, office maintenance, and equipment.Support the Executive Director in ensuring clinics maintain safe, accessible, and functional work environments working in tandem with the Clinic Development Director.Assist the Executive Director with coordinating relationships with vendors, service providers, and IT support.Compliance and ReportingAssist the Executive Director in supporting compliance with funding agreements, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.Support the preparation of operational reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.Assist in maintaining organizational documentation and operational records as directed by the Executive Director.Organizational CoordinationAssist the Executive Director in coordinating operational planning across programs and clinic locations.Support communication and coordination between administrative staff, lawyers, and leadership.Assist the Executive Director with Board reporting and governance support as required.The Operations Director provides oversight to ensure alignment with society‑wide policies and budgetary controls but defers to the Executive Director on the day‑to‑day project execution within the Development Director's delegated authority.Facilitate with the Development Director and the Executive Director for multi‑site initiatives,
maintain a shared project repository, and ensure clear documentation of approvals, vendor contracts, and funder communications.Where priorities conflict between operational requirements and development operations, the Operations Director will elevate unresolved issues to the Executive Director for final determination.Any other duties as given by the Executive Director or a delegate.Qualifications Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in public administration, nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).Experience in operations management, preferably in a nonprofit, legal, or community service organization an asset.Experience supporting multi‑site operations or complex service delivery environments is an asset.Skills and CompetenciesStrong organizational and operational coordination skills.Experience supporting nonprofit financial administration and budgeting processes.Knowledge of HR administration and employment practices.Strong problem‑solving and organizational abilities.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and support a collaborative workplace.AssetsExperience in legal clinics, access‑to‑justice organizations, or community‑based services.Familiarity with legal aid systems and social justice work.Experience working with diverse and marginalized communities.Working ConditionsHybrid work workplace with occasional travel between clinic locations.Some evening or occasional extended hours may be required.Compensation – $70,000 to $80,000 annual plus pension and extended health benefitsAll successful candidate(s) will be required to have a Police Information Check (PIC) as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however, a PIC will be required upon consideration for employment).These positions are based on 35 hours per week and will primarily be Monday to Friday. On occasion, candidates may be required to work the occasional evening and/or weekend.
