It takes a society to take on cancer – and the Canadian Cancer Society is leading the way MAKING AN IMPACT The Research Analyst provides essential data management and analysis to support the Research team in evaluating and communicating on CCS’s research investments and research strategy implementation. This role reports to the Manager, Research Data & Evaluation (MRDE). Responsibilities Conducting comprehensive analysis of research program data Processing and responding to internal and external Research Information Requests pertaining to research data and impacts Coordinating the coding and tracking of targeted/designated donations to specific CCS research grants WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING Research Program Data Analysis Support research operations and evaluation, research communications, and strategic planning generating program specific data. Data Generation And Analysis Generate and analyze data to illustrate review panel processes, reviewer scoring trends, and various other outputs (e.G. enthusiasm charts) facilitating informed funding decisions from panel chairs, CCS staff, and members of the Advisory Council on Research. Conduct quality checks on grant coding and support coding/recoding of newly submitted and awarded grants as necessary. Translate complex data from the research portfolio or individual programs into concise formats for internal and external stakeholders using standard tools, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Crystal Reports. Outputs include funding announcement data and program data summaries for internal or external use. Update/add coding to historic grants to enable analysis aligned with research evaluation framework and CCS’s research strategy. Administer and update surveys (applicant and reviewer) in QuestionPro, analyze results, and summarize findings in a concise format. Preliminary interpretation will be discussed with MRDE and presented to the research team for discussion. Collaborative Projects With The MRDE Assist the MRDE in the reporting of CCS research investments for fundraising, year-end financials and impact reporting Support the MRDE in developing and updating strategic/program metrics and KPIs, and identifying areas for optimization Support the MRDE in collecting and analyzing data related to special projects (e.G., research funding review process evaluation) Processes Improvement Working closely with the MRDE, develop and refine processes and best practices related to data analysis, including strategies to ensure consistency and accuracy, and enhance efficiency of repetitive and ad hoc analyses.
Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance data quality and coding efficiency within the Research team Research Information Requests Organizational Support Respond to standard data inquiries received through the Research Information Requests form and deliver timely responses by navigating multiple data systems and multiple operational teams. Complex requests will be managed in consultation with the MRDE. Maintain internal databases of CCS funded research (e.G., grants database, partner database). Collaborate with Research Communications to keep the CCS Intranet Research Toolkit (or similar resource) complete and up to date. Internal Research Team Support Extract data to support the research team on various strategic projects (as requested) using Microsoft Office Suite and Crystal Reports. Improve data collection and research coding processes in collaboration with the MRDE. Additional Processes Improvement Identify opportunities for departmental process improvements in collaboration with the MRDE. Designated donations coding Coordinate the designated donation process: track designated donations to grants (within the grants database and grants management software), request set-up of grants in Salesforce and track funding codes for designated donations, identify and resolve discrepancies between Salesforce and internal databases in consultation with the MRDE Escalate complex/large designation requests to senior research staff in a timely manner. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor's or master's degree in a related field such as data science, statistics, research methodology with complex data set, or public health. More than 3 years of similar or related general experience in progressively more important positions Previous experience in a similar research analyst role is not required but is considered beneficial to the role Proficiency in data collection, cleaning and analysis Technical & Analytical Skills Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables (essential) Experience with reporting tools such as Crystal Reports and SalesForce is beneficial. Familiarity with coding programs such as R, Python, or other similar program is desired Excellent analytic and interpretation skills Ability to synthesize complex data in a concise and accessible manner Solid problem-solving skills and ability to interpret complex requests and data Other Strong quantitative skills with the ability to manipulate and interpret large datasets Excellent attention to detail and ability to uphold high quality control standards Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and to identify and address data-related issues. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines,
including the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
