The Opportunity: As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Operations team, the successful candidate will develop, implement, and maintain the Company’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs, policies, systems and reports for the Heritage Plant. The role will ensure legislative and plant compliance with occupational health and safety by “on‑the‑floor” involvement with operations. Key responsibilities include assisting in the development of safe work procedures, training, claims management, and assessing/controlling risks to reduce or eliminate accidents or incidents that cause personal injury or property damage. The goal is to standardize safe work methods and recognise high‑impact behaviours to achieve a world‑class health and safety program. The successful candidate will be involved in all Health & Safety activities related to the Heritage Plant. Snapshot of a Day‑in‑the‑Life: Develop and construct Safe Work Procedures (SWP), identifying basic job steps, tasks, hazards and risks, and create safe operating procedures and hazard controls to sustain OHS maturity and growth. Enforce the business’s Golden Rules and other site programs through cross‐functional team meetings. Maintain OHS metrics and documentation, presenting this information to applicable parties. Design and deliver training programs for workers, management and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements and improve health, safety, emergency and security. Assist in reducing health and safety risks and hazards through onsite behavioural observations and targeted audits. Support Pre‑Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs) for new equipment, structures, protective elements or process modifications, detailing the necessary measures to bring the installation into compliance with applicable regulations. Review and monitor on‑site contractor OHS programs and compliance with applicable regulations.



Respond to and support accident response, including first aid and proper investigation and follow‑up. Support emergency management activities including drills, tabletop exercises, evacuation support and incident command support during an actual emergency. Maintain content and data analysis of supporting software for site programs, including SAP, iWarehouse, iNet, Alchemy Systems and other PPE or vendor platforms. Maintain records and documentation for all programmes under your purview. Ensure integrity and confidentiality of employee information. Support and influence multiple levels of management within the organization. What You’ll Bring: 3–5 years of experience in progressively responsible H&S roles. Previous experience supporting a large client group in a fast‑paced environment within specified time frames. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of compliance and regulatory training for all personnel onsite. Computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with regulatory bodies such as the Ministry of Labour or Ministry of the Setting. Knowledge in WSIB claims management.
