Peace River North School District #60MECHANIC Position Description:There is a position available for a Mechanic in the Transportation Department with School District #60. Applications must be completed online and will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled. Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor and Transportation Working Foreman, this position is responsible for maintaining the School District vehicle fleet including school buses, motorized and non-motorized maintenance vehicles, as well as compressors, light plants and grounds equipment. Hours of work: (8) hours per day, (5) days per weekDuties to Commence: As soon as practicable after closingWork Base Year: 12 monthsCommencing Salary: $43.81/hr. Duties:Carries out duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.Performs mechanical and electronic diagnoses and repairs on vehicles and equipment.Performs safety checks and road tests vehicles.Keeps a clean and well maintained workplace at all times.Fills out work orders as required.May be called to act as lead hand in the absence of the Working Foreman – Transportation.Follows proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, that equipment and vehicles are operated according to set standards.Ensure the secure handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and the safe use and operation of equipment and hand tools.Informs the Supervisor(s)
and/or Administrative Officer of vandalized equipment or property.Performs other job-related duties as directed by the Transportation Supervisor. Qualifications:Interprovincial Red Seal Certified Heavy Duty or Commercial Transport MechanicKnowledge of computerized diagnostic equipmentMinimum Class 5 driver’s licence with air brakes endorsementAcceptable Driver’s abstractVehicle inspectors’ certificate would be an assetWHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary periodOther applicable safety training and/or certifications as provided by the District to be completed as neededMust be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employmentGood interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a teamAbility to work independently and set priorities Please note that Proof of graduation or highest level of education is required prior to starting work For more information please contactJanet Peterson, Transportation Supervisor (250)263-6426 or via email
