The Opportunity
True Mechanical is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team, focusing specifically on our Special Projects division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs for mechanical systems within these fast-paced and often unique projects, ensuring competitive and successful bids.

Roles & Responsibilities

Prepare and complete accurate cost estimates for TI, Renovation, and other special projects, typically ranging from $50,000 up to multimillion dollar values.

Analyze project plans, specifications, proposals, existing site conditions, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive time, cost, material, and labor estimates.

Effectively manage the tender process, including distributing documents and addendums to relevant sub-trades and suppliers for quotes.

Perform detailed quantity take-offs for mechanical systems.

Identify and quantify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities unique to working within existing structures or occupied spaces.





Develop and maintain relationships with sub-trades, suppliers, and clients active in the market.

Prepare complete tender proposal packages, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Price site instructions and change requests accurately and efficiently.

Collaborate with project managers during the pre-construction phase and ensure smooth project handovers after award.

Maintain estimating workbooks, databases, and historical data for project metrics.

Track bidding success rates and contribute to analyzing bid performance within the Special Projects division.

Qualifications & Experience

Proven 3+ years of experience as an Estimator in the mechanical contracting industry, with specific experience in Special Projects strongly preferred.

Trimble Experience

Proficiency with AutoBid estimating software.

Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Piping).

Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, capable of handling multiple bids simultaneously.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal teams, clients, and vendors.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Relevant post-secondary education or trade certification is an asset.
