Matteo Gilfillan and Associates Inc. (MGA) is a Canadian Building and Fire Code consulting firm providing services in the fields of fire protection and life safety. MGA provides Code consulting services and solutions on building designs and concepts, prepares alternative solution proposals, conducts integrated system testing, and conducts building inspections / audits for a variety of project types, building sizes and occupancies.
MGA is looking to expand their team by adding skilled, self‑motivated Building Code/Fire Protection Consultants who can apply the Building and Fire codes to new construction, renovation and existing building projects. The successful candidate will work in a team environment. Currently there are positions available at junior, intermediate and senior levels for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interpreting and applying building and fire codes to new construction, renovation and existing buildings
Preparing code reports and other technical documentation
Assisting senior staff in the development and documentation of Alternative Solution Proposals
Inspecting and evaluating existing buildings with respect to the Ontario Fire Code
Providing technical support and assistance on projects, including related administrative duties
Communicating with clients, authorities and staff alike in a professional manner
Conducting business development - generate recent opportunities and build client base
Preparing project proposals
Involvement with professional development opportunities (conferences, seminars, presentations etc)
Skills and Qualifications
Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Diploma in Fire Protection or Architectural Technology.
Code-related industry experience is an asset (but not necessary) for junior positions. Intermediate candidates should have minimum of 4‑5 years of experience. Senior level candidates should have a minimum of 8 years of experience.
Working knowledge of the Ontario Building and Fire Codes and associated Standards
Understanding of fire and life safety engineering principles,
Knowledge of building design and construction,
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in the English language,
Ability to work on multiple projects at a time,
Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and workloads,
Strong work ethic with attention to detail,
Proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office software,
Ability to work efficiently to meet client project deadlines,
Focus on customer service
Ability to travel for meetings and building audits predominately in Toronto and the surrounding area.
