Detailed Overview
In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Nurse Clinician utilizes evidence-informed practice to provide consultation and clinical expertise in skin and wound care and prevention that will achieve the most effective outcomes. Role models direct care skills to staff and students, performs identified complex wound modalities, and provides information and education to staff and/or patients/families. Participates in research, policy, quality improvement, and risk management activities. The Nurse Clinician performs duties with unit, hospital, program, and/or regional focus and may be required to work at multiple sites across Fraser Health.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates expertise and provides clinical leadership in evidence-informed practice related to skin and wound care; reviews literature in specialty area, consults with experts, collaborates with interprofessional team, evaluates clinical practice,



recommends changes to existing standards to the Manager, and participates on regional and provincial committees related to skin and wound care practice.

Role models direct patient care skills to staff and students in the area of skin and wound care and provides just-in-time education at the point of care. Coaches, mentors and provides information utilizing clinical evidence, policy, literature and resources, and education theory.

Performs identified complex wound modalities as needed and follows up on complex skin and wound cases.

Determines education requirements that meet clinical and learner needs, collaborating with Manager/Director/Clinical Nurse Educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist; completes learning needs assessments of individuals or groups to assist in establishing learning objectives.

Develops and revises teaching plans based on identified learner needs, chart audits, patient outcomes, and new skills/procedures.

Delivers learner‑centered education to staff and patient/families through presentations, group facilitation and lectures.

Evaluates effectiveness of education programs and consultations to ensure goals are met and identifies opportunities for quality improvement.

Plans and schedules education activities, maintains attendance tracking system, and reports statistics for quality improvement.

Collaborates with other practice leaders to provide leadership, consultation and performance support to clinical staff, student nurses, and students.

Supports staff in patient/family education regarding discharge planning, illness prevention and health maintenance.

Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities by evaluating changes in practice, recommending improvements, and conducting safety audits.

Arranges and/or provides preceptorships and mentorships for staff and students regarding skin and wound care.

Participates in research and special projects; promotes staff awareness and involvement in research activities.

Assists Manager/Director by attending panel interviews, providing recommendations on new staff selection and budgetary resource use, including wound care product recommendations.

Assists Manager/Director in assessing and supporting clinical skill and performance, providing coaching to achieve established goals.

Participates in the review, development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed clinical decision support tools/policies.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience




Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) years of recent related clinical experience in skin and wound care, including one (1) year of education and/or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Completion of postgraduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area (e.g. International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course - IIWCC, Canadian Association Enterostomal Therapy - CAET, Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse - WOCN). Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
