One of our clients, a well-respected local law firm committed to delivering exceptional legal services, is seeking a full-time Controller to join their team. Position Overview
The Controller will manage all financial aspects of the firm, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and overall financial health. This role demands strong leadership and analytical skills, along with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles. The accounting department has a full time AP and part time accounting assistant to support the current Controller.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

Prepare and present financial reports and monthly operating results to the owners, including variance analysis.

Manage all general accounting functions, including chart of accounts, general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, petty cash, and bank reconciliations.

Analyze monthly spending and billing reports for all staff.

Prepare and file quarterly GST returns.





Process semi‑monthly payroll while ensuring compliance with monthly remittance requirements.

Prepare and file the annual T4 summary and information slips with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Prepare and submit the annual trust report to ensure compliance with the Law Society of Alberta.

Develop and monitor the annual budget.

Maintain and enhance accounting practices, processes, systems, and internal controls to ensure compliance with reporting standards.

Coordinate the preparation of additional financial reports and conduct special analyses as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;

2+ years of relevant experience as a Controller, preferably at a Law firm.

5+ years of bookkeeping experience.

Strong financial analysis skills.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Experience with Soluno software is an asset.

Outstanding critical thinking skills.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
