Where You Will WorkOur global headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. The Geomechanical Engineer I and the Geomechanical Engineering Specialist I positions both require work to be performed in-person at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix. The Hub provides an open, flexible workspace for individuals and teams to come together for various business needs. Amenities at the Hub include a working café, phone booths and meeting rooms with technology tools for virtual and in-person collaboration.Phoenix is the capital of the Grand Canyon State and enjoys mostly bright skies throughout the year. It is a great place to live and work if you enjoy the outdoors, sports, concerts, the arts and other big city amenities or technology.This position may be eligible for Freeport-McMoRan immigration work visa sponsorship.What You Will DoUnder close supervision, assist in mining geomechanical engineering processes including pit slope & stockpile stability, instrumentation and serve as resource for geomechanical information and analysis.Overall property slope management functions for pit slopes, stockpiles, and tailingsManages and provides geotechnical project oversight and review relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planningManage and review slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviewsCommunicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability and geotechnical information to mine and site personnelManage,



conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles, and site access roadsProactively seek improvements to the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, geotechnical data acquisition and analysesDevelop, maintain and implement strategic plans to enhance the mine’s slope stability programMay represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to geotechnical or mine slope stability effortsShow understanding in the usage of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical data analysis, Mintec’s MineSight (or equivalent)Perform other duties as requiredWhat You Bring To FreeportNote: Education and/or Degree type along with the minimum qualifications below will determine the position for which you will be considered.Minimum Qualifications for Geomechanical Engineer IB.S. Degree in Mining, Geological, Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering disciplineMinimum Qualifications for Geomechanical Engineering Specialist IHigh School Diploma or GED and (4) four years of Engineering experience, ORBachelor’s degree in a Scientific disciplinePreferred QualificationsExperience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stabilityKnowledge in the principles and practices of mining, mining engineering and geotechnical applications in a hard rock open pit mine environmentSkilled at researching,



analyzing and communicating information of considerable difficulty and develop appropriate conclusions and action plansSkilled in managing engineering projects related to a hard rock open pit settingAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a diversely educated audienceAbility to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety of yourself and othersSkilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazardsWhat We Offer YouThe estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $78,500-$107,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
