About Sidekick
At Sidekick, our mission is simple: help people recover faster from persistent injuries. Trusted by Olympic champions and everyday individuals, our products have been featured in Men's Health, Running Magazine, and more. With 94% of users reporting relief from chronic pain, we’re on a mission to become the go‑to injury relief brand.

About the Role
As we expand our line of rehabilitation and pain relief devices, we’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support our product team in bringing physical concepts to life. You’ll work closely with our Industrial Designer and Product Manager — translating ID concepts into production‑ready engineering packages, validating performance, and ensuring our products are designed to be manufactured and built to last. We’re looking for someone based in Toronto who can come into the office periodically to review prototypes hands‑on and refine designs based on what they’re seeing and feeling in person.

Key Responsibilities

Convert industrial design sketches and concepts into production‑ready 3D CAD models and detailed 2D engineering drawings

Perform tolerance stack‑up and clearance analysis to ensure fit and function across assemblies

Design for manufacturability across processes including injection molding, CNC machining,

die casting, and 3D printing

Apply FEA where needed to validate structural integrity and performance

Collaborate with manufacturing partners to identify and resolve tooling and production feasibility issues

Support design of mechanisms including gears, linkages, friction systems, elastic resistance, and pulley or magnetic systems as required by product concepts

Contribute to engineering documentation and support transition to production handoff

Skills, Experience & Ideal Fit

Strong 3D CAD proficiency with a DFM mindset — you think about tooling, clearances, and assembly from day one

Hands‑on experience designing for injection molding and machining constraints

Working knowledge of engineering plastics and composites (PC, Delrin, glass‑filled nylon, TPE, etc.) and how material selection affects design, cost, and manufacturing decisions

Cost‑aware design sensibility — you understand how decisions ripple into tooling cost, unit economics, and assembly complexity

Experience with mechanism design (gears, pulleys, linkages, elastic or magnetic resistance, pneumatic/hydraulic systems, etc.)

Able to work closely with an industrial designer, picking up from sketch or render and carrying through to a manufacturable, toleranced design package

Self‑directed and comfortable working asynchronously within a structured product development process
