Position Description

Casual Child Care Educators assist centre teams in the implementation and delivery of quality play‑based licensed child care programs for children 0–12 years of age, while adhering to YMCA HBB policies, quality standards, and the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).

Responsibilities

- Assist in the planning, organization, and leading of activities for children 0 to 12 years of age in programs ranging from 10 to 90 children.
- Understand and comply with all regulatory items per the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), YMCA and the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, and others.
- Ensure the health and safety of the children at all times; identify potential hazards and implement preventative plans.




- Complete required documentation of children’s development and activities, including administrative tasks assigned to the role.
- Assist with children’s bathroom routines, changing soiled clothing or diapers, and participating in snack/mealtimes.
- Utilize appropriate behaviour guidance techniques in all interactions with the children.
- Assume leadership of the program in the absence of the Facilitator/RECE and/or Assistant.
- Communicate positively with parents, school personnel and community contacts.
- Participate in association‑wide events and attend monthly meetings and professional learning sessions.
- Manage shared‑space program areas, requiring movement and setup of equipment on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
- Work a versatile schedule, including early mornings, late afternoons and split‑shifts; hours may fluctuate to meet operational needs.
- Be available for a minimum of three days a week; shifts are not guaranteed.
- Maintain ongoing communication with coach to be scheduled and/or receive shifts from regular part‑time educators.
- Perform frequent light to medium physical effort including lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year‑round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold.

Qualifications





- Completion of a degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education.
- Membership in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- A minimum of 12 months’ experience working with children, obtained through paid work experience, volunteering, placements, or a combination.
- Familiarity with developmental needs of children aged 0 to 12 years.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills with children, families, staff/volunteers, and community partners.
- Strong proficiency in spoken and written English for effective communication and accurate documentation.
- Working computer knowledge.
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Current Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR‑C & AED certification (Level C).
- Current and satisfactory Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC); may be required to travel.
