About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering team specializing in the design of HVAC, plumbing. This role offers the opportunity to lead a variety of commercial, healthcare, institutional, residential, and mixed-use building projects while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical designs, managing project resources, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for recent construction and renovation projects.
Manage projects of varying size and complexity while delegating work to designers and junior engineers.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to mechanical designers and intermediate engineers.
Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
Review project requirements and develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
Prepare schematic designs, design development reports, specifications, and construction documentation.
Select mechanical equipment in coordination with suppliers and manufacturers.
Conduct peer reviews of engineering designs and drawings to ensure quality and compliance.
Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
Perform construction site reviews and provide technical support during project execution when required.
Assist with contract administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, evaluating design changes, and assessing associated costs.
Monitor project schedules, budgets, work progress, and resource allocation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
5-10 years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings.
Professional engineering experience in commercial, healthcare, institutional, residential, or mixed-use projects.
Robust understanding of building systems and multidisciplinary coordination.
Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
Working knowledge of Canadian building codes, plumbing codes, and industry standards.
Experience preparing engineering reports, specifications, and construction documents.
Strong project management, leadership, and mentoring skills.
Understanding of project financials, including budgets, work-in-progress (WIP), backlog, and resource planning.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
