POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Nursing and Resident Care (DONRC) provides leadership and oversight for all nursing and resident care services at this 232-bed, not-for-profit, long-term-care home and is accountable for the delivery of safe, high-quality, resident-centered care.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the DONRC ensures professional practice leadership and reporting to the Administrator, ensures compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 (FLTCA), Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements, and College of Nurses of Ontario standards. The DONRC is responsible for clinical operations, quality improvement, infection prevention and control, behavioural supports, workforce planning, and resident outcomes while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Leadership

Provide leadership and oversight for nursing, personal support, behavioural support, quality, and infection prevention and control programs.

Promote evidence-based, resident-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Monitor and improve clinical outcomes, including falls, wounds, medication safety, responsive behaviours, restraints, and infection rates.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality

Ensure compliance with FLTCA, regulations, qualified standards, and organizational policies.

Lead inspection readiness, corrective action planning, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives.

Utilize RAI-MDS and quality data to monitor performance and improve resident outcomes.

Clinical Operations

Oversee resident assessment, care planning, clinical documentation, medication management, and clinical program development.

Ensure the integrity and effective use of clinical data and reporting systems.

Support implementation of best practices and innovative models of care.

Staffing and Workforce Management

Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skills mix to meet resident care needs and legislative requirements.

Lead recruitment, retention, performance management,



staff development, and succession planning.

Monitor staffing, overtime, absenteeism, and agency utilization.

Risk Management and Safety

Oversee incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.

Lead outbreak preparedness and response activities.

Promote resident safety, workplace health and safety, and emergency preparedness.

Financial and Operational Accountability

Develop and manage the nursing and resident care budget.

Monitor staffing and operational expenditures.

Ensure responsible utilization of resources while maintaining quality standards.

Collaboration and Leadership

Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, allied health professionals, Behavioural Supports Ontario teams, and community partners.

Participate in organizational leadership and committee work, including Quality, IPAC, Professional Advisory, and Behavioural Supports Committees.

Support strategic priorities, innovations and organizational initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).

Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in long-term care or healthcare.

Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario long-term care legislation, quality improvement, and infection prevention and control.

Experience with RAI-MDS, quality improvement frameworks, and Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) programs.

Preferred

Experience leading long-term care inspections and compliance initiatives.
