CFOC-Doors of Compassion is a low-barrier, trauma-informed Christian-based organization supporting people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity. About the Role

Program Facilitators deliver CFOC-Doors of Compassion's patron-facing programming across our shelters and HUB. This is a direct practice role: you will facilitate workshops, run groups, provide one-on-one program support, and help build an environment where patrons feel engaged, respected, and connected to their own goals.

Programming covers a range of areas: life skills, housing and financial readiness, health and wellness, employment pathways, creative engagement, and cultural connection.

Facilitators work across two settings: shelter (with people actively experiencing homelessness) and residence (with people in the early stages of being housed). Both require a grounded, patient, and non-judgmental approach. You will meet people where they are - not where it is easiest to run a program.

What You'll Do

- Facilitate scheduled group programs and workshops: life skills, housing readiness, financial literacy, wellness, employment,



and other topics as developed
- Build genuine rapport with patrons to support consistent program participation
- Adapt facilitation to meet patrons where they are, including those navigating trauma, mental health challenges, or substance use
- Set up and maintain program spaces; prepare materials, supplies, and resources
- Track attendance and participation; maintain program records as required
- Collaborate with the Peer Support team, Housing Navigation team, and shelter teams to support coordinated patron engagement
- Communicate relevant observations to the Program Engagement Coordinator
- Participate in team meetings, debriefs, and training

What You BringRequired

- Diploma or degree in Social Service Work, Community Work, Social Work, Addictions and Mental Health, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience facilitating groups or workshops with people navigating multiple barriers
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and person-centred approaches
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with people navigating homelessness, poverty, or instability
- Patience, flexibility, and genuine curiosity about people - not every session goes to plan,



and that is part of the work
- Ability to establish strong connections while maintaining personal boundaries
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive practice
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check
- Ability to have regular interaction with individuals experiencing housing instability, mental health challenges, and addictions.
- Flexibility for some evening or weekend as hours may be required based on program needs.

Asset

- Experience in a shelter, housing or low-barrier setting
- Knowledge of Durham Region community resources and social services
- Lived experience of homelessness or housing instability is a meaningful asset and welcomed
- Familiarity with HIFIS or similar documentation systems
