The Opportunity

Noyen Construction is seeking an experienced Construction Surveyor to support our heavy civil operations. This position requires a highly skilled professional capable of independently managing survey activities across multiple projects while ensuring precision, efficiency, and compliance with project specifications.

The successful candidate will possess advanced knowledge of construction surveying principles, GPS machine control, digital terrain modeling, Civil 3D, GPS machine control, and civil construction practices. This role requires excellent problem-solving abilities, sound technical judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with project management, engineering, and field operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Review engineering drawings, design models, specifications, and contract documents to develop survey strategies and construction layouts.
- Establish, verify, and maintain horizontal and vertical control networks throughout all phases of construction.
- Perform complex construction layout for roads, subdivisions, ponds, utilities, grading, and structural components.
- Conduct topographic surveys, quantity surveys, progress surveys, and final as-built surveys.
- Perform UAV (drone) surveys and process aerial survey data when required to support topographic mapping, progress tracking, volumetric analysis, and as-built documentation.
- Prepare, manage, and validate digital terrain models (DTMs), alignments, corridors, and surface files for construction operations.




- Process and manage survey data using industry-standard software while maintaining data integrity and quality assurance.
- Upload, validate, and troubleshoot GPS machine control files for construction equipment.
- Perform field calculations, coordinate geometry (COGO), and survey computations to support project requirements.
- Verify construction tolerances and ensure all work conforms to engineering design and project specifications.
- Identify survey discrepancies, analyze potential impacts, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate survey activities with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and others.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior survey personnel.
- Maintain survey equipment, GPS receivers, robotic total stations, and data collectors to ensure optimal performance.
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications

- 5+ years of construction surveying experience within heavy civil, earthworks, or infrastructure projects.
- Extensive experience performing GPS construction layout and grade verification.
- Advanced knowledge of civil construction staking methods.
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems, control networks, and survey accuracy standards.
- Experience working with DTMs, DXF, and digital design files.
- Proficiency with survey software such as, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center, or equivalent.




- Experience with Topcon GPS systems and machine control technology is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of machine guidance and GPS-controlled construction equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, grading plans, profiles, cross sections, and design specifications.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and mathematical skills.
- Strong communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities.
- Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or Geomatics Engineering Technology Diploma is considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.
- Ground Disturbance Level II, First Aid, and H2S Alive certifications are considered assets.
- Experience operating UAVs (RPAS/drones) for construction surveying, photogrammetry, and volume calculations is considered a strong asset.

Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
