**Job Title: Formwork Carpenter** **Job Description**
This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of concrete formwork projects across Abbotsford, Mission, and surrounding areas, focusing on tilt-up construction, architectural concrete, and light industrial formwork.
You will participate in daily planning meetings and toolbox talks, interpret blueprints, and contribute to the construction of panels, footings, slabs, retaining walls, stairs, and related concrete structures while supporting layout and preparation activities on site.
**Responsibilities**
+ Attend daily toolbox meetings to review site priorities, safety topics, and receive task assignments for the day.
+ Coordinate with site leadership each morning to understand the work focus, sequencing, and expectations for the shift.
+ Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to understand panel, footing, slab, retaining wall, stair, and underground layouts.
+ Assist with building and assembling formwork for panels, footings, slabs, retaining walls, stairs, and other structural concrete elements.
+ Support in preparing footing, slab, panel, and underground layouts, including measuring, marking, and setting out work areas.
+ Select appropriate materials and plan work sequences and methods to meet project specifications and timelines.
+ Perform various types of light industrial tilt-up formwork, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to safety standards.
+ Use carpentry tools such as hammers, tape measures, squares, levels, and utility knives to construct and adjust formwork as required.
+ Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and materials are stored safely and efficiently.
+ Follow all site safety procedures, including the use of appropriate PPE, and actively participate in creating a safe work environment.
+ Communicate effectively with team members and site leadership to coordinate tasks and resolve issues that arise during construction.
+ Travel to and work at multiple project sites, including Mission, Abbotsford, and Surrey, as project needs require.
**Essential Skills**
+ Minimum 2+ years of experience in construction as a carpenter, with exposure to concrete formwork.
+ Experience working with tilt-up, industrial, and concrete formwork projects.
+ Ability to read and understand the basics of blueprints and construction drawings.
+ Strong practical carpentry skills, including measuring, cutting, assembling, and installing formwork components.
+ Experience using and maintaining personal hand tools and a complete tool belt, including hammer, tape measure, squares, levels, utility knife, and other necessary tools.
+ Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with site leadership and crew members.
+ Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to all assigned sites by car.
+ Commitment to working safely and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Experience with architectural concrete work on residential or commercial projects.
+ Background in light industrial tilt-up construction environments.
+ Interest in developing leadership skills with the potential to grow into lead or foreperson roles.
+ Willingness to participate in ongoing training, including tickets and leadership development programs.
+ Ability to work extended hours and frequent overtime when project schedules require.

**Work Setting**
You will work primarily in concrete formwork settings on a mix of project types, including an architectural concrete house in Mission, a tilt-up school in Abbotsford, a tilt-up production facility, and additional tilt-up projects in Surrey.
The typical schedule runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with regular overtime beyond 3:00 p.m., averaging 3–4 days of overtime per week and approximately 45–50 hours in total.
The environment is hands-on and physically active, requiring the use of personal hand tools, a full tool belt, and appropriate PPE.
Work is conducted outdoors and indoors depending on the project phase, with a focus on safety, precision, and teamwork in a busy construction setting.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Abbotsford, BC.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $38.00/hr.
