**Job Title: Health & Safety Officer**

**Job Description**

The Health & Safety Officer leads, administers, and continuously improves the organization’s health and safety program to ensure full compliance with WorkSafeBC legislation, internal policies, and industry best practices.

This role combines hands-on operational safety leadership with strong administrative coordination, working closely with managers, supervisors, employees, and the Joint Health & Safety Committee to foster a proactive safety culture, reduce workplace risks, investigate incidents, coordinate return-to-work programs, and drive continuous improvement across all departments in a precision sheet metal manufacturing environment.

**Responsibilities**

+ Lead and administer the overall health and safety program to ensure alignment with WorkSafeBC legislation, company policies, and industry best practices.
+ Act as the primary point of contact during WorkSafeBC inspections, representing the organization and coordinating all required documentation and follow-up.
+ Coordinate responses to WorkSafeBC orders, ensuring timely and effective corrective actions and ongoing compliance.
+ Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and programs that support a proactive safety culture.
+ Plan and conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits across all departments and sites.
+ Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate control measures to reduce or eliminate workplace risks.
+ Lead or support incident investigations, determine root causes, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
+ Manage incident reporting, claims management, and documentation related to workplace injuries, illnesses, and near misses.
+ Coordinate and support return-to-work programs, working with stakeholders to ensure safe and timely reintegration of employees.
+ Design, deliver, and coordinate safety training programs and employee development initiatives, including toolbox talks and refresher training.
+ Provide coaching and guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees to reinforce safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
+ Partner with the Joint Health & Safety Committee, facilitating meetings, supporting committee activities, and following up on recommendations.
+ Oversee emergency preparedness and response programs, including drills, procedures, and readiness of emergency equipment.
+ Support occupational health programs, including monitoring workplace conditions and promoting health-focused initiatives.
+ Prepare and maintain safety reports, metrics, and documentation to track performance and support continuous improvement.
+ Engage employees in safety initiatives, encouraging participation, feedback, and shared ownership of health and safety outcomes.
+ Conduct safety audits and inspections of equipment, processes, and facilities, including areas where air-powered (pneumatic) tools and manufacturing equipment are used.
+ Collaborate with leadership to integrate health and safety considerations into operational planning and decision-making.
+ Drive continuous improvement by identifying trends, analyzing safety data, and implementing practical solutions to improve safety performance.
+ Travel to multiple sites, including locations in nearby communities, to provide consistent safety support and oversight.
+ Remain available and responsive for safety-related calls and issues that may arise outside regular working hours, as needed.

**Essential Skills**

+ Demonstrated experience in Occupational Health and Safety leadership within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
+ Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements.
+ Proficiency in health and safety program administration, including policy and procedure development.
+ Experience conducting workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.
+ Proven ability to lead incident investigations and develop effective corrective action plans.




+ Experience with claims management and coordination of return-to-work programs.
+ Skill in planning, delivering, and coordinating safety training and employee development initiatives.
+ Experience working with and supporting a Joint Health & Safety Committee.
+ Knowledge of emergency preparedness and response planning in an industrial setting.
+ Familiarity with occupational health programs and related workplace initiatives.
+ Solid communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office for reporting, documentation, and presentation of safety information.
+ Demonstrated continuous improvement and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to analyze safety data and implement practical solutions.
+ Ability to work effectively across multiple departments and sites, balancing administrative and hands-on responsibilities.
+ Willingness and ability to respond to safety-related issues that may occur outside regular working hours.

**Additional Skills & Qualifications**

+ Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, or active progress toward obtaining the certification.
+ Occupational First Aid Level 2 or Level 3 certification.
+ Formal Incident Investigation Training.
+ Train-the-Trainer certification or equivalent experience in delivering structured training programs.
+ Experience with safety auditing and inspections in a manufacturing environment.
+ Experience in precision sheet metal, industrial, or similar production environments is an asset.
+ Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and drive engagement in safety initiatives.
+ Comfort working around air-powered (pneumatic) tools and industrial equipment.
+ Ability to travel between multiple sites within the region as required.

**Job Type & Location**
This is a Permanent position based out of Port Coquitlam, BC.

**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
