Civil Engineer
Halifax, Nova Scotia

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership across our development portfolio. This is a senior role responsible for overseeing engineering design, consultant coordination, infrastructure planning, value engineering, and project execution from feasibility through construction.
You will work closely with executive leadership, planners, architects, contractors, and municipal agencies to ensure projects are practical, efficient, and delivered to the highest standards. The successful candidate will understand that engineering is not simply about design, it is about solving complex development challenges while balancing cost, constructability, approvals, and long-term performance.
Experience & Background
This position requires:
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligibility for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia
- Minimum 10 years of experience in civil engineering, with significant experience in land development
- Direct experience working in or around Halifax / HRM is preferred
- Strong knowledge of :
- Municipal and provincial approval and permitting processes
- Municipal infrastructure design
- Land development and subdivision engineering
- Stormwater management,
grading and servicing
- HRM and Nova Scotia regulatory frameworks
- Construction administration and project delivery
- Environmental considerations, approvals, and constraints
Experience in value engineering, cost-conscious design decisions, and constructability reviews is highly valued. Experience working with Developers, municipalities, consultants and contractors.
What You’ll Do
- Provide technical oversight of engineering consultants and internal project teams
- Review designs with a focus on value engineering, constructability, and long-term project performance
- Lead feasibility studies and technical due diligence for prospective developments
- Coordinate engineering design from concept through detailed design and construction
- Oversee municipal servicing, subdivision, roadway, and infrastructure projects
- Manage engineering schedules, budgets, and consultant deliverables
- Coordinate permit applications and approvals with municipal and provincial agencies
- Support project scheduling and assist in expediting approvals and construction timelines
- Collaborate closely with planners, architects, surveyors, and construction teams throughout project delivery
- Provide technical guidance during construction and assist with project commissioning
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and project records This is a hands-on role with real responsibility and influence.

The ideal candidate will also have experience with:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D and other municipal engineering software
- Construction administration and contract management
- Municipal servicing design and infrastructure estimating
- Multi-year project scheduling and capital planning
- Cash flow forecasting and development budgeting
- Interpretation of legal plans, easements, development agreements, and construction contracts
- Feasibility analysis and land acquisition due diligence
- Halifax Regional Municipality development policies and approval processes
