Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 321-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Manager of Outpatient Services is currently seeking a full-time Registered Practical Nurse. The purpose of the position is to provide psychiatric nursing care and physical assessment and related care required to patients within specialized Regional and Provincial Forensic inter-professional clinical programs.

Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work setting consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 275 Bayshore Drive, Midland, ON.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Assess patient condition and needs based on interviews, interaction and direct observation; developing and implementing therapeutic patient treatment/care/discharge plans in a 24 hour operation to achieve patient goals in consultation and collaboration with patients, inter-professional team, family,



substitute decision maker and community agencies within the circle of care as appropriate.
- Develop a therapeutic nurse-patient relationship utilizing nursing and other theoretical or practice frameworks
- As a member of an interprofessional team, actively participate in the identification and coordination of provision of services and resources for patients from admission to discharge
- Observe, assess, record, and report patient condition; evaluating progress and modifying plans as appropriate; assessing patient risk to self and/or others; consulting with a registered nurse when care needs are unpredictable and more complex; participating in quality improvement activities to facilitate changes in nursing practice and inter-qualified care.
- Provide leadership in the provision of nursing services within the nursing and inter-professional teams, consulting with a registered nurse when patient condition is more complex and outcomes are unpredictable.
- Contribute to a safe, therapeutic environment through awareness of the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards, program/facility wide policies and procedures, and mandatory training, i.e. implementing practices related to patient safety.
- Participate in program, divisional and hospital activities to improve the delivery of clinical care and other services.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

- Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
- Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) with Oxygen Therapy (OT) and Airway Management (AM) is required.




- Experience working in an outpatient setting is considered an asset.
- Experience working with children, youth or family mental health in a community setting is preferred.

- Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to adapt readily to change and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude

- Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
