About the Role

Paton is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join our team, based at our Sherwood Park, Alberta location, and provide engineering design services to our customers in the process industry.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop FEED reports for instrumentation, automation and electrical upgrade projects
- Specify all components of the control system (SIS, PLC, etc.) based on industry and customer standards
- Produce and review construction work packages, including electrical schematics, loop diagrams, instrument location drawings and installation details
- Perform infrastructure design (wiring, cabling, hardware specifications) for Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown (ESD), Burner Management (BMS), Fire and Gas (FGS), general purpose PLCs and Analyzer Systems
- Perform panel design for the above systems and develop material specifications to support procurement activities
- Establish control philosophies and network architecture documents
- Develop PLC/DCS applications and graphics
- Develop and execute related testing and commissioning activities (FAT, SAT, etc.)
- Review vendor offers and support Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE)
- Support Functional Safety studies, including HAZOP, LOPA and SIL verification for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Ensure Safety, Quality, and Lessons Learned are prioritized on all projects
- Interface effectively within both Paton and customer project teams

Requirements

- Technologist Diploma (Instrumentation, Electrical)



or equivalent required; Engineering Degree (Electrical or Computer) preferred but not required
- 5+ years of experience in a related role within the process industry (Petrochemicals, Refining, or similar); additional experience is an asset for taking on more senior roles
- Knowledge of control systems and field instrumentation, and LV/MV electrical, in an industrial environment
- Experience with control system design, testing, commissioning and maintenance
- Hands-on experience with the configuration and programming of PLC systems (ControlLogix, PlantPAx, Modicon, etc.) is an asset
- Hands-on experience with the configuration and programming of SIS systems (Triconex, HIMA, Honeywell Safety Manager, etc.) is an asset
- Self-starter, able to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Strong oral and written communication skills, to enhance productivity and support collaboration
- Commitment to safety and supporting both Paton and client safety cultures
- Able to travel and work at customer sites when needed
- Able to legally work in Canada

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00-$160,000.00 per year
