JOB DESCRIPTION – Tour Mini-Bus/Van Driver - Seasonal, Casual, Part-time

This position will NOT provide you with full-time hours.

CalgaryWalks & Bus Tours is seeking a responsible, personable, competent Tour Mini-Bus/Van Driver to operate a 15-passenger high-top van and 24-passenger mini-buses on local Calgary tour routes. The ideal candidate must possess an Alberta Class 4 Driver's Licence (or Class 1 or 2) and a clean driving record.

CalgaryWalks & Bus Tours specializes in delivering Walking and Bus tours to tourists and locals alike. Our tours focus on Calgary’s culture, history, and points of interest. Through our tour guides, we provide unique insights into Calgary “one story at a time”. We keep our tours small to provide our guests with a personalized experience of Calgary.

THE POSITION

This position is ideal for semi-retired, fully retired, self-employed individuals with flexible schedules, or stay-at-home individuals looking for casual employment. Your role will not include tour narration (this is done by the Tour Guide). Your focus is on the safety of everyone aboard and around the vehicle.

We are looking for multiple driver candidates to work occasionally with tour shifts that are subject to tour bookings - we only do tours when customers book them.

This position may provide weekday shifts of a few days per week, additional hours are possible depending on bookings received, and will vary throughout the season. This position will NOT provide full-time hours - only casual employment.

The successful candidate must have an Alberta Class 4 (or Class 1 or 2) licence and must also possess a clean driving record and demonstrate attention to safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Maintain vehicle cleanliness before and after each driving shift to ensure the vehicle is consistently clean and in a comfortable condition.
- Record keeping as mandated by Alberta Transport (i.e., vehicle log, etc)
- Perform a vehicle safety checklist as per Alberta Transportation standards before and after each tour
- Collect the vehicle from the depot at the beginning of the shift




- Collect passengers from the pickup and drop-off location for Bus tours
- Ensure schedule and tours are completed efficiently
- Safely drive our guests on a predetermined route
- Work with the Tour Guide to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
- Return the vehicle to the depot at the end of the shift
- Clean the interior of the vehicle in preparation for the next shift
- Communicate clearly and interact with tour guides, co-workers, and the public in a courteous, professional manner
- Extra assignments may be available on custom tours or as additional tours are booked
- Travel is primarily in the Calgary area during daytime hours. Occasional evening tours may be available.

- Ensuring the safety of all passengers and staff aboard is paramount
- Prioritize company assets and maintain goodwill
- Knowledge of Calgary streets and neighbourhoods
- Excellent guest service skills with a positive personality
- Willingness to learn and serve guests aboard our tours
- Ability to work flexible schedule/shifts
- Ability to complete tasks as assigned
- Committed to attending shifts assigned
- Mature approach and ownership of menial tasks to ensure a complete customer experience
- Mature approach towards work by taking ownership and responsibility in high-stress situations
- Must be able to comply with the Canadian National Safety Code Regulations and observe CalgaryWalks & Bus Tours corporate policies
- Comfortable driving in busy and sometimes difficult conditions on Calgary roadways
- Must have full use of a cell phone and knowledge to operate it and download the Apps used by CalgaryWalks & Bus Tours

QUALIFICATIONS





- Must hold a valid Alberta Class 4 driver's license (or Class 1 or 2)
- Those drivers selected for employment must provide a full Driver's Abstract dated within the last 30 days for the past 10 years, illustrating an impeccable driving record in Canada
- Have at least 3 years of driving experience in the Calgary area
- Communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal
- Basic first aid would be considered an asset, but not required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Due to the nature of the Tourism Industry, this is a casual position where tours may be booked at any time, requiring a driver. Candidates should be prepared to work flexible shifts. However, we work with you when assigning a schedule based on your preferences, providing flexible work assignments within reason, while at the same time, requiring those we work with to commit to and work pre-agreed-upon schedules.

As travel in Alberta increases and seasonal tourism numbers increase, a more active schedule will be available for those who are looking for additional hours (within Alberta Transportation driver regulations); however, this is NOT a full-time position.
