Job Summary
We’re seeking a detail-oriented QA Inspector to audit completed utility locates and drive field quality across our Locate Services team. Day to day, you’ll field-audit locates against an audit checklist — verifying paperwork, sketches, and field marks against the actual plant — log any findings, track them to close-out, and coach locators (DPTs) on what those audits reveal. The role comes down to two things: accurate locate audits, and turning findings into practical training that improves field performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field audits of completed locates using a Field Audit Checklist — verifying request information, sketch, located-area boundaries, measurements, and marking against the actual plant
- Re-sweep plant with locating equipment and confirm marks fall within tolerance, documenting any deviations
- Record every failed line as a finding; assign severity, root cause, and corrective action, and track each to verified close-out
- Deliver coaching and training to DPTs based on audit findings — turning recurring issues into targeted, practical guidance
- Identify trends across audits and near-misses, and recommend process and training improvements
- Complete near-miss/ILR reports and review deviations with the applicable utility as required
- Maintain audit records, findings trackers, and QA metrics/dashboards
- Ensure work aligns with CCGA/ORCGA best practices, client standards, and Ontario One Call requirements
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of underground utility locating and damage prevention
- Ability to read and verify locate sketches and field marks; comfortable using a locating equipment and measuring tools
- Experience conducting audits, inspections, or quality reviews preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills
- Able to give clear, constructive feedback and coaching to field techs
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make recommendations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel for trackers and dashboards)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field locations as required
Preferred Qualifications
- ORCGA Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) certification or similar
- Experience with ticket management systems and QA tracking tools
- Background in safety, compliance, or risk management
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Combination of office and field work
- Ability to walk job sites, stand for extended periods, and work outdoors in varying weather
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
