About Ski West

Ski West is Calgary's longest-running ski shop. We are locally owned and staffed by people who know skiing and snowboarding. Our goal is simple: give customers honest advice, help them find the right gear, and make sure they leave ready for the mountain.

The position

We are hiring a full-time Soft Goods Sales Associate to help customers shop for ski and snowboard outerwear, helmets, goggles, gloves, base layers, and accessories.

This is a sales position, so we are looking for someone who is comfortable starting conversations, asking good questions, and making thoughtful product recommendations. You do not need to know every product on your first day, but you should be interested in learning and willing to build strong product knowledge.

Unlike most retail positions, this role includes commission on top of regular pay. Employees who learn the products, take care of customers, and perform well have the opportunity to earn more.

Responsibilities

- Welcome customers and help them find products suited to their needs, preferences, and budget
- Recommend outerwear, helmets, goggles, gloves, base layers, and other ski and snowboard accessories
- Explain product features, fit, materials, and technical differences in clear, practical terms
- Build complete setups and suggest helpful add-on products without pressuring the customer
- Stay current on new products, brands, and industry trends
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly merchandised sales areas
- Replenish stock and assist with receiving, tagging, and organizing inventory




- Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately
- Help with store opening, closing, and daily cleaning tasks
- Support other departments during busy periods
- Contribute to individual and store sales goals

What we are looking for

- A genuine interest in skiing, snowboarding, or mountain culture
- Retail or customer service experience
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, confident approach
- The ability to listen to customers and make recommendations based on their actual needs
- Motivation to learn technical product information
- Reliability and the ability to work well with the rest of the team
- Comfort working in a busy retail environment during peak season
- Availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays
- The ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move merchandise as needed

Previous ski or snowboard retail experience is an asset, but it is not required. Product training will be provided.

Compensation

This position includes:

- Regular hourly pay of $13
- 3% Commission on Sales
- In-store Purchase Deals and Vendor Pro Deals
- Discounted lift tickets/season passes

Our commission structure gives strong salespeople the chance to earn far more than they would in a standard retail position. Your product knowledge, effort, and customer service have a direct impact on your earnings.
