MacKay’s Truck & Trailer Center is looking for a Commercial Body & Equipment Shop Manager to lead our Body Shop operations in Truro, Nova Scotia.

We’re looking for someone who brings strong leadership, solid organizational skills, and a commitment to exceptional customer service. You’ll take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the shop while supporting your team, maintaining quality standards, and helping drive the business forward.

MacKay’s is a family-owned business with over 40 years of experience operating full-line Truck, Trailer & Compact Equipment dealerships, with locations in Truro and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

About the Role:
The Commercial Body & Equipment Shop Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Body Shop, including financial performance, team leadership, workflow efficiency, and customer relations. This role ensures all work is completed to the highest standards while maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners such as manufacturers and insurance providers.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare and coordinate full cost estimates for all Body Shop activities, including materials, labour, and equipment
- Oversee the health, safety, and environmental standards of the Body Shop, leading and promoting a strong safety culture
- Supervise Body Shop employees, including scheduling, performance management, and training
- Develop and implement standards, practices, and procedures to ensure efficient and high-quality operations
- Maintain accurate files and documentation to support estimate figures and supplier pricing
- Manage Body Shop profit and loss performance and ensure financial goals are met
- Prepare cost estimations in accordance with proposals,



plans, and specifications
- Support other departments as required, including preparing estimates where needed
- Determine effective bid strategies to ensure competitive quoting
- Provide technical support in negotiating contracts and change orders
- Develop and maintain supplier, contractor, and subcontractor relationships
- Review and analyze proposals, recommending or rejecting based on requirements
- Establish unit costs, labour rates, and productivity factors for estimating purposes
- Present estimates and conduct review meetings with clients
- Participate in risk and opportunity evaluations with clients
- Prepare complete takeoffs for accurate estimating
- Review final estimate packages for accuracy prior to submission
- Participate in presentations to management and clients
- Promote brand initiatives aligned with corporate goals
- Conduct market research to support improvements and new services
- Support marketing initiatives within budget and timelines
- Perform other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

- Ability to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints, and as-builds
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills for estimating and cost analysis
- Experience using estimating software to prepare quotes and bids
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills




- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Valid driver’s license
- Robust mechanical knowledge of equipment, tools, and repair processes
- Ability to determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks
- Knowledge of safe operation of hand and power tools
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Adaptable and responsive to change

Nice to Have:

- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR
- Experience working with warranty and insurance claims
- Experience in commercial truck and equipment repair
