Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and technical development of structural systems and products from concept through final design, ensuring all work complies with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and company-approved methodologies. This role prepares engineering calculations, technical reports, construction specifications, and design details while collaborating with CAD designers to produce accurate drawings and shop plans. The Design Engineer conducts site inspections, provides technical support during construction, and serves as a primary technical liaison with customers throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the incumbent applies sound engineering judgment, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and effective communication to manage multiple projects while delivering safe, practical, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
- Utilize predetermined, company approved,
methods to perform the structural design and analysis of various products, from preliminary to final stages.
- Provide sketches for CAD designers and review CAD drawings.
- Perform engineering calculations and assessments for structures compiled of various materials.
- Visualize and create the necessary details pertaining to the development of design plans and shop drawings for various products.
- Prepare construction specifications.
- Prepare technical reports and calculation packages.
- Conduct inspections of project sites and prepare detailed reports.
- Liaise with customers during design and construction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Post-secondary Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
- Minimum five years relevant experience in engineering and design.
- Possession of a Professional Engineering designation in a Canadian Province or Territory is required.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD software is required.
- Working knowledge of structural software like SAP2000 or STAAD Pro is highly desired.
- Working knowledge of geotechnical design (deep foundations, retaining walls) is highly desired.
- Experience in reading and interpreting geotechnical reports is highly desired.
- MTO and/or DOT experience is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of relevant design codes, CHBDC, AASHTO and AREMA is considered an asset.
- A good understanding and experience in seismic design, including time history analysis, is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and take the initiative within predetermined guidelines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work in collaboration with other personnel in various departments within the company.
- Ability to communicate with other technical/construction personnel outside the company.
- Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities.

Pay: $120,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
