The Vice President Academic and Dean is the Chief Academic Officer of the institution and is a senior member of the leadership team. The Vice President Academic and Dean works together with the President and the University College Cabinet to implement the strategic goals of Booth University College. The Vice President Academic and Dean leads, directs, and manages the academic programs of the institution and must be able to work strategically, tactically, and operationally.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS: Supervises all academic departments and directly supervises Dean, School for Continuing Studies and any other academic deans, Director of Library Services, Registrar, Faculty (may be delegated to a dean), Administrative Coordinator, and Coordinator, Field Education and Work Placement Programs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB/ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of Booth's academic strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with Booth’s Strategic Plan
- Provide leadership for institutional accreditation, quality assurance, academic assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Serve as a liaison between academic staff and administrative leadership
- Oversee assessment of student learning outcomes, program effectiveness, and institutional academic performance
- Work closely with School Directors, Faculty, Student Services, and Students on issues of academic integrity, academic probation, and student accessibility
- Promote scholarship, research, and faculty career development consistent with Booth's mission
- Foster excellence in teaching through faculty mentoring, professional development, performance management, and succession planning
- Provide leadership for new programs and curriculum development, and for innovation in teaching and learning technologies
- Participate in institutional planning including enrollment, budgeting, risk management, and long-term organizational sustainability
- Champion academic excellence, student success, retention, and graduation outcomes.
- Foster a cooperative, respectful, and mission-centered academic culture characterized by integrity, collegiality, and servant leadership
- Provide leadership and direction for academic affairs by setting goals and monitoring and ensuring implementation
- Strengthen the distinctive missional identity of Booth University College by ensuring programs, course curriculum, and other academic events align to the purpose and mission of Booth UC
- Provide oversight on all academic appointments, tenure, and promotions, and ensure that processes comply with the Faculty Manual and other University College policies




- Provide oversight, vision, and strategic direction in academic budgeting and staff planning.
- In collaboration with the Dean of SCS, oversee the academic relationship with The Salvation Army College for Officer Training
- Schedule and oversee academic program reviews and work with Deans and School Directors to study and develop reviews, improvement processes, and/or changes to academic policies.
- Work with the President to strengthen relationships with The Salvation Army, accreditation bodies, external organizations, and other academic institutions
- Represent the President in select forums as required
- Serve as Vice Chair of Senate and the Senate Planning & Priorities Committee.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President
- Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships within The Salvation Army, both in the Canada and Bermuda Territory and internationally

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Required

- PhD or other terminal degree
- 7 years of senior or executive leadership experience
- A scholar with a proven record of teaching and research
- Experienced manager with organizational abilities, financial acumen, proficient in change management and conflict resolution
- Fully supportive of the integration of faith and learning in a Christian university-level setting and a commitment to the Mission of Booth University College
- Strong understanding of higher education in Canada (both public and private) with knowledge of the Manitoba higher education landscape
- Must have exceptional communication skills
- Must have the ability for strategic thinking
- Experience in governance and policy development
- Working knowledge of the church in Canada, including The Salvation Army.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain networks and partnerships to facilitate goal accomplishments
- Satisfactory criminal record check
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

2. Assets (Preferred Qualifications)

- Working knowledge of various technologies (including AI), especially as they relate to higher education
- A Salvationist in good standing

Anticipated starting date for the position is November 1, 2026.

This is a full-time position with 37.5 hours per week.
