Job Title: Videographer & Video Editor
Reports to: Video Editor & Motion Graphic Designer
Position Type: Contract / Freelance
The Kitchener Rangers are seeking a creative, motivated and enthusiastic Videographer & Video Editor to join our team on a contract/freelance basis for the 2026–2027 season.
This is an exciting chance for an early-career videographer and editor looking to build their experience and portfolio in a professional sports environment. The successful candidate will help capture and produce engaging video content that showcases our players, team, organization, community and fan base across our digital platforms.
You do not need years of professional experience to be successful in this role. We are looking for someone with a strong creative eye, a willingness to learn, an interest in sports storytelling and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with the Video Editor & Motion Graphic Designer, as well as the Marketing, Graphics and Communications teams, to develop timely and engaging content throughout the season.
The position offers a safe, fun, inclusive and positive working environment for someone with an excellent work ethic who aligns with our values and culture. This role will primarily be based at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, with additional travel to community events, team activities and other locations as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Capture, edit and deliver league-mandated home and away game highlight packages in accordance with required timelines and specifications.
- Film and edit video content from Kitchener Rangers home games, away games, practices, creative shoots, community events, team activities and special events.
- Assist with filming and editing short-form and long-form video content for the Kitchener Rangers' social media channels, website and other digital platforms.
- Capture engaging game-day content, including goals, player reactions, celebrations, fan moments, behind-the-scenes footage and other timely content.
- Assist with video coverage of community initiatives and appearances, including hospital visits, school visits, charity events, team appearances and other community programs.
- Capture and produce timely content surrounding Hockey Operations and player-related announcements, including call-ups, NHL/CHL Draft selections, World Junior selections, Player of the Week recognition, new hires, alumni appearances and other organizational milestones.
- Assist with player, coach, Hockey Operations staff, alumni and other interviews,
including post-game reactions, feature interviews and special announcements.
- Capture authentic behind-the-scenes moments and storytelling opportunities that showcase the personalities of Rangers players, coaches, staff, alumni and fans.
- Assist the Marketing team with video concepts that support campaigns, promotions, sponsorship initiatives, community programs and brand storytelling.
- Edit footage efficiently and creatively while maintaining a consistent Kitchener Rangers brand identity and visual style.
- Deliver content within established timelines, particularly for game-day, post-game and time-sensitive content.
- Assist with video content for promotional campaigns, ticketing initiatives, sponsor activations, merchandise promotions and special events.
- Organize, name, upload and archive video footage from games, creative shoots, events and other productions using established file management systems.
- Assist with maintaining and organizing video equipment and ensuring cameras, audio equipment, lighting and other production tools are prepared for use.
- Work with the Video Editor & Motion Graphic Designer to develop your skills and contribute to the Rangers' overall video content strategy.
- Stay current with video production, editing, social media and digital content trends and bring new ideas to the team.
- Assist with other video and content projects as required.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Film, Television, Broadcasting, Digital Media, Multimedia or a related field is considered an asset.
- Some experience in videography and video editing through school, personal projects, freelance work, internships or previous employment.
- A strong portfolio or reel demonstrating video production, editing, storytelling and creativity.
- A passion for learning and developing your skills in video production and editing.
- Strong understanding of sports, particularly hockey, and an interest in sports content and storytelling.
- Experience shooting live sports or fast-paced action is considered an asset, but is not required.
- Familiarity with video cameras, lenses, audio equipment, lighting and other production equipment.
- Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve or similar programs.
- Experience creating short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X.
- Understanding of social media video formats, aspect ratios, pacing, captions, graphics and platform-specific best practices.
- Strong creative eye and ability to identify compelling moments and turn them into engaging content.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn and take direction.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work comfortably with players, coaches, staff, media, fans, sponsors and community partners.
- Organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
- Team-first, positive attitude and willingness to contribute wherever needed.
- Experience within the OHL / CHL or other professional or junior hockey environment is considered an asset, but is not required.
Other Considerations:
- The ability to work evenings and weekends based around the Kitchener Rangers' game and event schedule is required.
- Availability for practices, community appearances, creative shoots, special events and other content opportunities throughout the season is required.
- The successful candidate must be comfortable working in an arena environment, including rink-level and potentially low-light conditions.
- The successful candidate must be able to carry and operate video production equipment for extended periods of time.
- Applicants do not need to have extensive professional experience. Students, recent graduates and early-career videographers are encouraged to apply.
