The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses are also required: 1)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, completion of an accredited RNFA program, and a minimum of five (5) years of perioperative nursing experience. Candidates must also demonstrate solid leadership and mentorship abilities; excellent communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills within a highly complex interdisciplinary environment; and proficiency in critical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. The role requires adaptability in a fast-paced surgical setting, effective time management, and the ability to stand scrubbed for extended periods while wearing personal protective equipment, including but not limited to apron radiographic protection, to safely support the surgical team. Candidates applying for the Professional Development Opportunity must meet the required qualifications listed above and the RNFA Program admission requirements set by the National Institute of First Assisting (NIFA).

Preferred Qualifications:

Canadian Nurses Association certification in Perioperative Nursing, CPN(C). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Experience providing staff education, mentorship or clinical instruction. Demonstrated ability to support the development of others. Experience leading or supporting change initiatives, quality improvement, participating in clinical research or advancing evidence-informed practice. Previous RNFA experience.
