Bilingualism is required as this is a collaborative role at a national level, and the candidate will have to handle and follow up on various requests from customers and third parties who understand and communicate only in English. This position also requires the candidate to be able to interact fluidly with colleagues in our offices across Canada, where English is the predominant language. As we estimate that more than 60% of the work required by this position must be carried out in English, and to ensure that the employee who will occupy this position can carry out his or her tasks independently and effectively, candidates for this position must be able to communicate adequately in French and English, both orally and in writing.
We are recruiting for a Specialist, Disability & Leave Management (French/English) to join our team in our Montreal office. This is a national role with exposure across multiple offices and business groups. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in leave management and accommodation. The individual in this role will play a key role in supporting employees through important life and health-related events. As a Specialist, Disability & Leave Management, the person will manage disability, accommodation, and protected leave programs across the Firm while partnering closely with employees, leaders, HR, payroll, and external providers to deliver a seamless and compassionate employee experience. As a Bilingual Specialist, Disability & Leave Management, you will be:
You will play a key role in supporting employees through health-related absences and workplace accommodation needs, providing guidance, compassion,
and expertise throughout the employee journey.
Disability, Accommodation & Return-to-Work Management
- Manage end-to-end disability and accommodation cases, including short-term disability, long-term disability, workplace accommodations, return-to-work planning, and employee reintegration.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to employees, leaders, Human Resources, and external providers by providing guidance on disability, accommodation, and leave management programs.
- Partner closely with employees throughout their leave and accommodation journey, ensuring a supportive, responsive, and positive employee experience.
- Coordinate with insurance carriers and third-party providers to facilitate timely assessment, adjudication, and management of disability claims and accommodation requests.
- Develop and implement individualized return-to-work and accommodation plans that balance employee well-being, operational needs, and legislative requirements.
- Collaborate with managers and key stakeholders to identify appropriate workplace accommodations and support successful employee reintegration.
- Monitor leave and accommodation cases, proactively managing timelines, follow-ups, and required documentation to ensure effective case resolution.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment, human rights, privacy, and accessibility legislation, as well as firm policies and practices.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records within HR systems, ensuring data integrity and effective case management.
- Partner with Payroll, Benefits, Human Resources, and external vendors to ensure accurate administration of leave payments, benefits, and return-to-work processes.
- Identify trends, recommend process improvements, and contribute to initiatives that enhance the employee and leader experience related to disability and accommodation programs.
- Act as a subject matter expert on disability management, workplace accommodation, and return-to-work best practices across the Firm.
You will support employees during important life events by ensuring a seamless, supportive, and compliant leave experience from planning through return to work.
Leave Management (Maternity, Parental & Family-Related Leaves)
- Administer maternity, parental, family caregiver, compassionate care, and other legislated leaves across the Firm.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers, providing guidance on leave provisions, benefit entitlements, payroll impacts, and return-to-work planning.
- Partner with employees to coordinate all aspects of their leave experience, ensuring a smooth transition before, during, and following their leave.
- Calculate and administer leave top-up programs and collaborate with Payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing of payments and benefit adjustments.
- Coordinate with HR, Benefits, Payroll, managers, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless leave administration and effective communication throughout the leave lifecycle.
- Monitor leave timelines, maintain accurate records, and proactively support employees and managers in planning successful returns to work.
- Ensure leave management practices remain compliant with applicable employment standards legislation and firm policies.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance employee experience, and improve the overall delivery of leave programs across the Firm.
As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:
- 3-5 years of experience in disability management, accommodation coordination, leave administration, benefits administration, human resources, or a related field.
- Bilingualism in French and English is required.
- Experience managing disability, accommodation, return-to-work, and leave programs in a corporate, professional services, healthcare, insurance, or similar environment.
- Strong case management, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Working knowledge of human rights legislation, accommodation obligations, and employment standards requirements.
- Experience working with HRIS platforms such as Workday, ServiceNow, or similar systems.
