The Opportunity

RSR is looking for a senior MacLean bolter operator to train and mentor bolter crews at the Young-Davidson Mine in Matachewan, Ontario, on a 7-and-7 rotation.

This is a training seat, not a production seat. You will not be chasing a round count. You will be in the heading beside newer operators, coaching them to run a MacLean bolter safely, correctly and to standard — then signing them off when they are ready.

The role is offered on a casual / contract basis, and we specifically want to hear from retired and semi-retired operators. Several of the trainers already working for RSR are retired miners, and the arrangement works extremely well for both sides: you keep your hand in the trade, on a predictable rotation, without carrying a full production workload.

What You’ll Do

- Deliver hands-on, in-the-heading training on MacLean bolters — 900 Series scissor bolters, 975 Omnia and comparable platforms.

- Coach operators through the full bolting cycle: set-up and positioning, ground assessment, drilling, bolt installation, screen and strap handling, and secure tramming.

- Cover the ground support types used on site — resin rebar, friction (Split Set) bolts, Swellex, mechanical/point anchor and cable bolts — to the mine’s ground control management plan.

- Reinforce safe work procedures: ground condition awareness, scaling, working under supported back, isolation and lock-out, and hazard identification.





- Assess operator competency, document progress, and recommend or complete sign-off.

- Provide practical machine care coaching — pre-op circle checks, feed and drill maintenance, consumables, and knowing when to call the mechanic.

- Give the site and RSR honest feedback on where crews are strong and where they need more time.

What You Bring

- 10+ years underground hard rock experience, including substantial time operating MacLean bolters.

- Ontario Common Core — Underground Hard Rock transcripts, including U0018 Operate Mechanized Rock Bolter or equivalent demonstrated competency.

- A track record of training, mentoring or leading crews — formal train-the-trainer credentials are an asset, but proven ability to teach matters more.

- Strong safety judgement and the confidence to stop a job and correct a bad habit.

- Ability to pass the site’s pre-access requirements (medical, fit testing, and site orientation).

- Valid Canadian work authorization and a valid driver’s licence.

Nice to have

- Experience on battery-electric MacLean units.

- Common Core trainer/evaluator or Skilled Trades Ontario training experience.

- Ontario Mine Rescue background.

- Experience with cable bolting and secondary ground support.
