Job Location: Academic Services Office - 345 Livingstone Street East, Barrie, with travel throughout the school district

Position Type / Hours: Full-Time Permanent. Monday to Friday, 35 hours weekly, aligning with school year which consists of 194 school days Existing Vacancy

Annual Compensation: 10 Month Grid Level 6 $65,720 to $80,687 commensurate with education, skills and experience.

The School Counsellor offers expert mental health consultation, crisis intervention, counselling, and training to students, staff, families, and school communities, supporting Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 students in their social, emotional, and academic growth. The role builds system capacity to address the needs of students with learning, developmental, behavioral, and mental health challenges. School Counsellors deliver evidence-based support aligning with the mission and vision of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- A Regulated Health Professional with a Master’s degree in Psychology,



Social Work, or a related field from an accredited university (please include a photocopy with your resume package).
- A minimum of three to five years of related work experience is preferred.
- Strong skills and experience in evidence-based mental health interventions, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, solution-focused and brief therapy, short-term and crisis response counselling, as well as mental health consultation.
- Training and demonstrated skills in suicide prevention, assessment, and intervention.
- Training and skills in BMS and threat assessment and intervention are considered an asset.
- Experience working with children and youth in an educational environment is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working with individuals from culturally diverse populations, including students of First Nations, Métis, or Inuit ancestry and their families and caregivers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of historical and ongoing factors requiring trauma-informed and culturally supportive approaches.
- Knowledge of approaches to positive mental health and life promotion.
- Knowledge of Ontario legislation, regulations, professional standards, and jurisprudence related to mental health and education,



including matters involving children and youth.
- Experience working with students who have exceptional learning needs, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, behavioural disorders, and students who have experienced trauma.
- Knowledge of local resources and experience with referral and discharge processes.
- Experience participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, providing career development training to staff, and liaising with external agencies is considered an asset.
- As travel within the Board’s jurisdiction is a requirement of this position, candidates must have the ability to provide reliable transportation across the school district.
