Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) – Part-Time

Little Blessings Nursery School is a non-profit Christian nursery school providing half-day morning and afternoon preschool programs in Whitby. We are looking for a caring, energetic, and dependable Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) to join our team on a part-time contract basis.

The position will initially be scheduled in our morning program. As afternoon enrolment increases, the successful candidate must be available and willing to expand their schedule to work in both the morning and afternoon programs.

Requirements

The successful candidate will:

- Interact with children in a positive, caring, and enthusiastic manner.
- Build positive and professional relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Work closely with RECEs and other educators as part of a team.
- Assist with planning and implementing a child-centred, play-based program in accordance with How Does Learning Happen?, the Durham Region Operating Criteria (DROC), ELECT and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).
- Need to do observations, classroom documentation, and children's developmental portfolios.
- Be flexible, dependable, and able to adapt to changing classroom and program needs.
- Support and uphold the Christian mission and values of Little Blessings Nursery School.

Major Responsibilities

- Assists with developmentally appropriate activities that support children's spiritual, cognitive, physical, social,



and emotional development.
- Works closely with the RECE and the team to support individual and group needs.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of children at all times.
- Communicates professionally with parents/guardians regarding children's daily experiences and needs.
- Supports children during snack and follows dietary and allergy requirements.
- Assists children with toileting, diapering, handwashing, dressing, eating, and developing self-help skills.
- Conducts daily health observations and reports concerns to the RECE or Supervisor.
- Administers first aid when required and assists with related documentation.
- Ensures toys, equipment, and classroom areas are maintained in a safe and clean condition.
- Assists with attendance, health records, accident reports, and other required classroom documentation.
- Helps ensure the classroom meets the requirements of the Durham Region Operating Criteria.
- Follows LBNS policies and procedures and takes direction from the Supervisor and RECE.
- Attends monthly staff meetings and required training.

Qualifications

- Early Childhood Assistant education or related education/child care experience is preferred.




- Minimum 6 months of experience working with young children; toddler/preschool experience is an asset.
- Experience in a licensed child care setting is preferred.
- Robust interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Caring, patient, reliable, and enthusiastic about working with young children.
- Valid Standard First Aid certification including Infant and Child CPR-C.
- Up-to-date immunization records and health assessment, including a 2-step TB test.
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check dated within the last 6 months.
- Must be able to support and uphold the Christian mission and values of Little Blessings Nursery School.

Contract & Working Schedule

Contract Term: August 31, 2026 to June 2027

Position: Part-Time Contract ECA

The position will begin primarily in our morning program. As afternoon enrolment increases, additional afternoon hours may be added.

Applicants must be available and willing to work both morning and afternoon programs when required.

Potential working hours are within:

- Monday & Friday: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
- Tuesday to Thursday: 8:00 am – 4:15 pm

The school is closed for approximately 2 weeks during Christmas Break and 1 week during March Break.

Please note: Afternoon hours will depend on program enrolment and are not guaranteed at the beginning of the contract.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
