Purpose

The Home Care Worker provides caring, respectful support to Elders and community members who wish to remain in their homes with dignity and independence, including personal care, home support, transportation, companionship, and Meals on Wheels delivery.

This is a full time position; however, part-time/casual options may also be considered. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Key Responsibilities

- Support community members with personal care, daily tasks, mobility, and safe movement in the home and community.
- Observe and report changes in community members’ physical or emotional condition.
- Support community members with taking medications as prescribed and report any concerns.
- Provide companionship, emotional support, and respectful care.
- Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and basic home safety support.
- Arrange home spaces to support safe use of mobility aids.
- Support Meals on Wheels delivery and related meal support.
- Drive community members to appointments, grocery shopping, and approved activities when authorized.
- Help community members access time outside the home and participate safely in approved outings.
- Help community members stay socially connected and involved in community life.
- Advocate for community members with family members, care providers, and officials when appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality and treat community members with respect at all times.
- Carry out other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Strong understanding of First Nations cultural practices, community life, and respectful support for Elders.
- Caring, compassionate,



reliable, and trustworthy approach to supporting community members.
- Good listening skills and ability to notice community members’ needs.
- Ability to set healthy boundaries with family members and others involved in care.
- Physical ability to support cleaning, lifting, mobility assistance, and household tasks.
- Ability to remain calm, confident, and compassionate in difficult situations.
- Understanding of Elder rights, dignity, confidentiality, and respectful advocacy.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Education & Experience

- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in caregiving, home care, home support, Elder support, community support, or a related role.
- Health Care Assistant certificate, home support training, or related training is an asset.
- First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain, is an asset.
- Registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, lived experience, and work experience may be considered.

Other Requirements

- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to provide a recent driver’s abstract.
- Ability to successfully and periodically undergo a vulnerable sector criminal record check.
- Commitment to following Chawathil First Nation policies and procedures.

Preferred

- Indigenous ancestry, especially Chawathil First Nation or Stóō Nation membership.
- Experience working within First Nations communities.
